Hi, we're Shake πŸ‘‹ Our mission is to help businesses grow with online reviews, using both 1st party reviews on your business and 3rd party reviews on other businesses. We're creating a more transparent world by helping both consumers and companies be more aware of customer feedback. We do this by leveraging big data to enable workflows that have never been seen before, with a software as a service approach in Reviewshake and a data as a service approach in Datashake.

We're an established high-growth business with thousands of paying customers and a team of 20+. We are searching for a Head of Engineering (Remote) that can help us manage and scale our engineering efforts across the company. You're proactive, excited about technology, and self-motivated individual eager to learn and take ownership of your work. You love communicating and working with other engineers and have a proven track record in scaling engineering teams.

Being bootstrapped (not venture-backed) and fully remote, we don't strive for growth at all costs and are building a company we can be proud of and enjoy working for.

In a typical day, you will:
  • Work with our Head of Product and CEO to architect, build and scale new features
  • Be responsible for overall code quality, reviews and unit tests
  • Ensure that the engineering team adheres to high standards and practices sustainable engineering
  • Hire and retain top-level engineering talent
  • Coach, mentor and support our team of 14 engineers (and growing)
  • Make sure we’re meeting our product roadmap
  • Report on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to the leadership team

Our ideal candidate has:
  • A high degree of empathy, self awareness and oral/written communication
  • 7+ years of experience building applications
  • A proven track record managing a remote team of engineers and leading projects to production
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python
  • 3+ years with SQL/NoSQL databases
  • Experience in designing software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance

Nice to have:
  • Experience with DevOps (Ubuntu, AWS, GCE)
  • Experience with machine learning (text classification, NLP) &data science (data analysis, visualization)
  • Experience managing big data (eg. data lakes, Apache Spark)
  • Web scraping (residential proxies, captchas, high throughput)
