Altrac creates automation tools that help farmers unlock productivity and gain peace of mind. Our products allow customers to remotely monitor and control their farm equipment through their smartphone or computer. We are a small group of makers and doers that have been applying our skills to shape the future of farming since 2014. This is a great opportunity to join an agricultural technology startup at a pivotal time in its growth phase.
 
The Job: 
As our first dedicated front end developer, you will be responsible for the frontend aspects of all of Altrac’s customer facing business applications. This will include the Altrac web application, web site and admin portal, as well as automated alerting systems and emails. You will work closely with the development team and the larger Altrac team to develop new products and features for these systems. For each of the production systems we expect you to own development, testing, deployment and issue response. 
 
Requirements: 
  • 3+ years working experience with JavaScript / HTML / CSS
  • 1+ years front end development experience using React
  • Experience managing complex application states (Flux, Context, Redux)
  • Collaboration experience using Git, Github and other standard team collaboration tools
  • Experience working with UX/UI designers to translate product vision into fast and usable web applications
  • Experience developing for email newsletters and transactional emails
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Experience working remotely or examples of situations where you worked independently on a day-to-day basis
  • Experience deploying web applications and managing multiple development environments
  • Cross-browser and cross-device testing experience, including familiarity with Windows, Mac, iOS and Android

Nice to have: 
  • Experience and/or passion for working on problems that affect farming and food production
  • Familiarity with IoT devices and concepts behind how they are managed by users and operators
  • Experience using AWS, CloudFront and other web hosting technologies
  • Knowledge of UX / UI design tools and processes such as Sketch
  • Experience with charting libraries, especially HighCharts and Google Charts
  • Experience with Postmark, Hubspot and other email delivery tools
  • Working knowledge of backend applications, and their components including Node, Postgres, SQL, DynamoDB, AWS Lambda
  • Experience with Shopify
  • Comfortable working with Mac, Linux and Windows operating systems
