Job Summary:
Columbia College Online Education is looking for a creative, innovative, and team-oriented individual to join our Instructional Design team. As part of an established online education division, Instructional Designers work with faculty and subject matter experts to design high-quality and engaging online courses. Using current learning theories, instructional design models, and best practices in online education, the Instructional Designer incorporates current educational technologies to promote effective teaching strategies and improve student learning experiences.
- Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia Colleges vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Online Education Department.
- Collaborate with faculty, department chairs and Online Education staff to design quality online and hybrid courses.
- Serve as project manager for online course developments and redevelopments, coordinating all aspects of planning, design, and implementation, as well as communication between all parties involved.
- Integrate current educational technologies to promote effective teaching strategies and to improve student learning experiences.
- Participate in the design and development of online modules, incorporating a variety of web design and instructional tools, including HTML/CSS, graphics, video, audio, and other media rich content.
- Through ongoing research, monitor and test current and innovative technologies and pedagogical strategies that can be used to enhance online learning and teaching.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field.
- Experience developing and redesigning face-to-face, fully online, and hybrid/blended courses using sound principles of instructional design and project management.
- Experience and demonstrated competence in working with learning management/online learning platforms such as D2L Brightspace. Demonstrated experience with HTML5/CSS3;multimedia (including images, audio, and video);Adobe Creative Suite;or related tools.Applicants must produce a sample instructional module as part of the final interview process.
- Thorough knowledge of online pedagogy and learning theories/instructional design models.
- Willingness to learn and follow the design process, standards, and templates used at Columbia College.
- Knowledge and experience with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Instructional design experience at an institution of higher education.
- Multimedia production experience (graphics, audio, video).
- Teaching experience in higher education, specifically using online technologies.
- Local applicants are preferred, but remote opportunities are available
