Code.org® is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. Our vision is that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their core K-12 education. JOB SUMMARY

Code.org’s people and culture are critical to our success. We are looking for a mission-driven, people-first leader committed to ensuring Code.org provides a high-functioning and inclusive environment, with a resilient team that has what they need to be successful at work. 

As VP of People &Culture and a member of Code.org’s leadership team, you will develop and deliver on a People Operations strategy supporting our 100+ person, remote-first team. Code.org’s team has grown rapidly during the past few years (in size, scope and complexity). Your focus will be to ensure we have the right people operations policies, practices and processes (e.g. those that growth, retention, onboarding, hiring) in place to support our maturing organization. With support from the Executive and Leadership teams, you will lead our talent and culture development in a way that exemplifies our values and core competencies.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Act as a strategic partner to the executive team and develop and implement  our people strategy;including crafting  goals that increase our employees’ success, satisfaction, and drive employee engagement, retention and wellbeing;and implement talent strategy to meet our growth 
  • Advocate for our organization's culture;ensuring our mission, values, core competencies and how the organization approaches equity in our work are understood and put into practice. Partner with leadership to maintain culture that is rooted in these values, by providing the knowledge, tools and experiences that engage and inspire our team at all levels. 
  • Develop people managers as trusted leaders, equipping them with standardized frameworks and individualized solutions to manage effectively and support their team’s growth. 
  • Partner with Executives and Finance to ensure equitable and competitive compensation plans including market research, detailed analysis, bonus planning, and benefit management.
  • Refine and implement learning and development, career path, and job-leveling programs -- unlocking our team’s potential to grow in their careers.
  • Manage and develop our six-person People Ops team (human resources, employee experience, learning and development, talent acquisition, and administration) 
  • Coordinate  the talent acquisition team - building a world-class team at Code.org, driving effective and inclusive hiring practices, ensuring recruiting goals and critical metrics are met 
  • Apply a data-driven approach to recommend proactive solutions for employee performance, retention, and engagement
  • Manage People Ops team budget and adhere to organization-wide headcount, salary, and benefit budgets

As our ideal candidate, you have:

  • 10+ years of People Operations / HR-related experience 
  • 5+ years managing a team
  • Have built and successfully scaled HR systems (performance management, compensation, onboarding, and/or employee engagement) for a maturing organization  
  • Demonstrated use of quantitative and qualitative data to surface challenges and opportunities and recommendations for change to the Leadership and Executive Teams 
  • Experience effecting meaningful organizational change;proven ability to influence, support and inspire change  with leadership teams 
  • An aptitude for coaching, mentoring and building rapport across teams
  • A successful track record of expanding diversity and driving inclusive recruiting strategies in a growing organization
  • Strong understanding of compensation, benefits, organizational development, employee relations and employment law
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to implement HR strategies 
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment preferred

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check

WHAT IS THE INTERVIEW PROCESS LIKE?

Step 1: Informational Interview - learn more about the role and share your experience (~30 minutes)
Step 2: Interviews with several members of the Code.org team (~ 4 hours)
Step 3: Final Interview + Meet &Greet with 2-3 members of the Code.org team (~1 hour)
Step 4: Reference Checks 

All interviews are conducted virtually via Google Meet
