We Work Remotely

About Us:

Customs Info is a growing, profitable software company on a mission to revolutionize how logistics companies find potential customers. We're small, bootstrapped, and committed to sustainable growth. In five months, we’ve already gained fifteen customers, and we aim to grow to $1M in revenue in the next two years without any outside capital and minimal costs.

Customs Info is operating in a niche market in the logistics sales space. The three co-founders have strong backgrounds in the space: former Head of Demand Gen at Flexport, former top performing SDR manager at Flexport, former Head of Eng at Rutter API, respectively. Ultimately, this could be a low-maintenance $3M+ ARR cashflow business. We just need your help to get there.

Role Overview:

You will be taking over the entire engineering efforts of the company. The CTO (former head of Eng at an a16z-backed company) will be available for support, but ideally, you quickly take over everything, both the fun stuff (setting technical direction, setting the product roadmap, collecting customer feedback, improving any technical systems) and the not fun stuff (fixing bugs late at night, arguing 3rd party vendors down, handling an angry customer).

You will be THE guy, with everything that that entails.

You will LOVE this job if:

  • You have always wanted to run and own your own business, but you don’t want to deal with that first stage of wandering through the desert and finding the right thing.
  • You want to work closely with three smart, high integrity, personal growth-oriented co-workers.
  • You love talking directly to customers, hearing their problems, and then creating a product that delights them.
  • You enjoy working independently and quickly on things.
  • You are excited to take radical ownership of every system. The buck will stop with you.
  • You are a product-oriented engineer who cares first and foremost about solving customer problems.
  • You are willing to grind for the first few years to end up with potentially the sweetest job ever.

  • This job is NOT for you if:

  • You want or need consistent technical mentorship from a manager that is constantly reviewing your work.
  • You want the immediate cushy and chill life that a large, stable tech company provides.
  • You find yourself excelling in highly-structured, hoop-jumping cultures.
  • You are worried about taking on personal risk.
  • You want to move into engineering management in the next two years (we probably won’t hire other people for a while) or build a big team around you.

  • In order to excel here, you will need to:

  • be the type of person who never shies away from a problem just because you haven’t done it before.
  • Learn quickly and teach yourself new concepts as needed
  • Be comfortable setting a product roadmap and a technical strategy
  • Be familiar with our tech stack (TypeScript, Next.JS, TypeORM, React, Postgres, Heroku)
  • Be familiar with full-stack web development as well as data ingestion pipelines. (Familiarity with scraping is a plus but not needed)
  • Write solid code quickly and understand when speed trumps quality and vice versa.
  • Communicate incredibly well and proactively communicate status and priorities.

  • A typical week might involve architecting new features, talking to customers, and chatting with the other business owners about company strategy and tactics.

    Company Values:

The company values these things. If you’re excited about this, we’re excited about you. If these are turnoffs, we probably aren’t the right place.

  • Be an owner: Everyone at this stage should have equity in the company, and everyone should do everything that is needed to make the company win.
  • Brutal focus: We do one thing at a time, and we do it extremely well. Right now, we’re building sales tools for logistics companies. We say no to everything else, even if someone was waving a $1M check in front of our eyes.
  • Too high integrity: We believe that integrity in business is incredibly important. We’d happily lose some money if it meant doing right by a customer or prospect.
  • Improve and Get Better Every Day: We believe in making the business and ourselves 1% better every day. As we make more money, we plan to re-invest most of it in improving our existing team as well as our processes. We give and take candid feedback, and we’re always looking for ways to become better.

  • What We Offer:

    • Fully remote work environment with flexible hours
    • If things go well, you’ll be the CTO.

    Application Process:

Our interview process includes a brief coding challenge and a round of interviews focused on your technical skills and problem-solving approach. Once we’re sure you can code, we have another round focused on culture fit and your general business sense.
