We Work Remotely
At Mailprotector, our Senior Software Engineers design and build products that help organizations secure and optimize email. We work in small, independent teams, typically on 6-week cycles. Your day to day will be spent writing and shipping code to shape a new feature, improvement, or fix. An ability to work across the entire stack will be essential. You’ll work on our Ruby on Rails applications as well as other applications written in Python and NodeJS. Occasionally, you may even jump into the frontend.

You might have a computer science degree. You might not. That’s not what we’re looking for. We care about what you can do and how you do it, not about how you got here.

If you’re not in the Greenville, SC area, no problem. Our product team is distributed across the country. Remote work is embraced at Mailprotector.

This might be a good fit if you:
  • Have designed, developed, or maintained large-scale Ruby on Rails production apps;at least 3 years experience.
  • Are familiar with encryption algorithms.
  • Have experience with email protocols and systems such as SMTP, POP3, IMAP, DMARC, DKIM, Microsoft Exchange, Postfix, and Dovecot.
  • Craft solutions with a "security-first" mentality.
  • Have experience with high performance event-driven network applications.
  • Embrace a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Have a knowledge of database systems like MySQL, Aurora, Redis, and DynamoDB.
  • Are comfortable digging in until you figure it out but know when it’s time to ask for help.
  • Enjoy the additional freedoms and responsibilities of small company culture.
  • Regularly have ideas about making things better that you can persuasively communicate.
  • Desire to improve, learn more, and make things better.
What we do:

Mailprotector designs, builds, and supports products that help organizations secure and optimize email. We do this exclusively through a network of channel partners who rely on us for this mission critical application. We operate primarily from our headquarters in the historic Ivey's building on Main Street in Greenville, SC and remote locations around the country.

How we behave:

  • Finish Strong: We do whatever it takes to get the job done whether that means going over, around, or through the obstacles in our way. We work hard doing hard things because that’s where the reward is.
  • Own Your Work: We take the initiative to figure things out and accept the responsibility for finding the solution. We accept accountability to those depending on us.
  • Pursue Excellence: We are internally driven to be great at what we do. Our natural ambition comes from the passion of doing what we were created to do.
  • Stay Humble: We are team players who consider others’ interests as much as our own and know that only when the team wins, do we truly win.
  • Be Curious: We think deeply and creatively about the things we encounter with an insatiable desire to improve and a disdain for the status quo.
  • Invest In Others: We seek to be authentic and genuine with our teammates and our partners, because we care for them. We operate with integrity by saying what we do and doing what we say.
  • Sweat The Details: In our work and with our words, we are conscientious because the details make the difference.
Other things you should know:

  • There are multiple openings for this position and we will consider remote work for the right candidate.
  • Our interview process is more involved and thorough than you think it will be. This helps us make sure we find you the right seat on the bus.
  • We're going to pay much more attention to your cover letter than your resume.
  • We're first and foremost a team;but that doesn’t mean this is a place to blend in. We are looking for creative, intelligent, opinionated, hard-working teammates who want their efforts and input to matter.
If you think you might be a fit for this role and for our team then we’d love to talk. Please submit your resume and bespoke cover letter. We’ll be back in touch if we think there might be a reason to talk further.
