Job description

Please do not apply for this role if you are not physically located in Europe, Africa or the Middle East (UTC-1 to UTC+3). While this is a remote position, we can not consider candidates that are not based in these regions. You can find a detailed explanation in our Recruitment FAQs.

At Hotjar, we're creating Product Experience Insights software for digital product teams. We help show how users behave and what they feel strongly about, so product teams can deliver real value, fast.

As a member of our newly established Privacy Team within Hotjar's Compliance Division, you'll be a critical contributor in navigating the complicated challenges of processing personal data in an ever-changing regulatory landscape. You'll lead complex privacy-related projects to address topics spanning multi-faceted privacy domains.

You'll be part of a team that focuses ruthlessly on providing business-enabling privacy counsel to teams at Hotjar while supporting our customers in their privacy needs when using our software. You will conduct privacy impact assessments and lead remediation plans, where needed while ensuring we stay on top of the ever-evolving changes in our organization and the global privacy landscape.

Reporting to Hotjar's Data Protection Officer and external counsel, you'll draft, review, advise and update external and internal documentation, conduct privacy impact assessments, participate in customer correspondence, and more, to enable us to reach our vision.

You will:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on global data protection laws, with an emphasis on the EU General Data Protection Regulation, acting as an internal advocate to provide business enabling advice on the impact of these laws on Hotjar and its customers.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments, maintain records of data processing activities, conduct transfer impact assessments and help manage other internal privacy compliance programs, documentation, and processes to ensure we always meet our obligations.
  • Stay on top of all global regulatory and legislative privacy changes and work with external legal partners across the globe to manage Hotjar's privacy risks.
  • Perform dedicated privacy and compliance gap analysis and remediation plans.
  • Manage, participate and lead privacy-related projects across multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain and implement Data Subject Request processes and solutions.

Requirements:
  • A European law degree and experience with global data privacy laws and principles, including the GDPR, SCCs, ePrivacy, UK and EU member state privacy laws and guidelines, the CCPA, the LGPD, and others.
  • Experience in leading and successfully delivering privacy-related projects across complex cross-functional teams.
  • A business enablement approach to privacy matters.
  • Must put customers at the heart of everything - You will support external customers and internal team members, and work with our trusted external legal partners.
  • Desire to work in a respectful, transparent, and collaborative work environment, following Hotjar's company values, culture and ways of working.
  • Must submit to a background check confidentially processed by our third-party.
Compensation:

The compensation range for this role is €80,000 to €110,000 annually. This was established after performing market research and is aligned with our approach to compensation. We encourage all candidates to read our Recruitment FAQs to further understand our approach to compensation and how we structure our contracts.

In addition to the monetary compensation, we provide all team members with an assortment of unique and popular perks chosen to reflect our values and ideals, be it encouraging constant learning with our Personal Development Budget, a great work/life balance with the annual leave and Holiday Budget, or a happy, healthy team with our Wellbeing Budget.
