Why We’re Hiring For This Role
Our Product Design Lead, Cam, explains the important role you will play as part of the Design team. Watch his video.
Our design team is levelling up, and we want great people to help us deliver on our ambitions and define how design works at Float. We’re looking for a Product Designer to focus on designing compelling solutions our customers love, working closely alongside Product and Engineering.
This role will be part of the Design team headed up by our Product Design Lead, Cam, and will help shape both the team, processes, and the role of design within the wider company in our journey from startup to scaleup.
You’ll be working asynchronously with a bright, dedicated team from across the globe, with a strong focus on taking complex problems and creating solutions that feel simple and intuitive for our customers.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
The Product Designer will be responsible for owning and driving assigned projects from the Product Manager’s specs (from early idea validation and alignment to engineering handoff and VQA) and evolving the Float design system and language across all touchpoints.
Early on, you’ll jump right into:
- Working with the Product team to design features from spec across the Float desktop and mobile apps
- Design testable prototypes for research and evaluation
- Utilize the Float design system to apply to product solutions
- Work with Engineering to handover design solutions, and follow along to launch
Once you are a bit more settled, we expect that you will jump into the following projects:
- Work with Product to ideate and influence the delivery feature spec process
- Maintain, update, and add to the Float Design System and documentation and processes
- Deliver polished design solutions to Engineering and see-through VQA process right through to successful project launch
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
We want you to love your work and believe that these skills will allow you to succeed in the role.
Applying these skills requires:
- Design experience with a solid balance of UX and visual design to work end-to-end from spec, to wireframes, to polished design
- Solid skills in prototyping and interaction design
- Experience translating and delivering feature specs in collaboration with PM and research
- Ability to communicate complex features into simple and engaging design executions
- Strong communication skills to be able to explain design rationale of solutions and tradeoffs effectively
- An intrinsic motivation to seek out feedback in order to learn new skills and continue advancing in the role
As a fully remote team, we’re looking for someone comfortable with asynchronous communication as the default, which means you have previous remote experience and are comfortable using tools like Slack, Loom, and Asana to communicate as needed. Don’t worry—you will have significant deep work time since we have very few meetings (seriously, read here!).
