We Work Remotely
About GreyNoise
There are hundreds of cybersecurity companies telling their users what to worry about. GreyNoise is the only cybersecurity company telling users what NOT to worry about. We are an early-stage, venture funded cybersecurity company trusted by hundreds of companies and thousands of free users to:
  • Increase security analyst efficiency
  • Discover compromised devices
  • See emerging threats more quickly
We do this by collecting, analyzing and labeling data on IPs that saturate security tools with internet noise, delivering this data to users via UI and APIs. The unique perspective and context we provide helps analysts confidently ignore irrelevant or harmless activity, creating more time to uncover and investigate real threats.

GreyNoise is headquartered in Washington D.C. and was recently named a “Cool Vendor” by Gartner.

This is a fully remote role with optional office attendance. Applicants must have US work authorization.

The Role
The mission of GreyNoise is driven by one main goal - make our users’ lives easier. Our lifeblood is our community of users, and their experience with our products is extremely important to us. Traditionally, security products have been utilitarian, clunky, and painful to use. GreyNoise set out to solve a specific problem and do it with a beautiful and enjoyable experience.

We are looking for a Lead Product Designer who will own the overall user experience at GreyNoise and take the product experience to the next level. You will be transitioning the design work from an external design partner, Krit, whom we worked with to build the initial UI and UX. GreyNoise was founded around our unique data offering, with product development focused around our API and integrations, and our web UI outsourced to our friends at Krit. We’ve since learned that the GreyNoise UI is a significant part of the overall value we offer to our users.

Your design direction will influence the cyber security community and raise the bar on how users perform their daily tasks. In this role, you will collaborate with every team at GreyNoise and drive product-led growth initiatives across the company.

What You Will Do
  • Define the overall experience strategy of the product and be the champion of the user
  • Define personas and drive user research efforts
  • Analyze and update user experience artifacts based on user feedback and product analytics
  • Design workflows that help users achieve their most critical tasks with pleasure and ease
  • Execute in a fast-paced and fluid environment
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, and senior leadership to build a world class user experience and communicate our user experience vision
  • Communicate through compelling storytelling and data driven proof points to influence overarching product direction
  • Be a hands-on contributor

What You Will Bring
  • We don’t have a specific requirement for years of experience. However, this role will need to lead multiple efforts and work efficiently, so someone with 2 or 3 years of design experience or fresh out of school probably isn’t a good fit
  • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end product research and design, ideally on technical software and/or software for B2B SaaS applications
  • A portfolio of research and/or design work, executed by yourself or a team you were part of, that showcases exceptional research and design craft on software that has been delivered
  • Experience with a variety of user experience design and research tools and software (e.g. Figma, Sketch, InVision, Storybook, Balsamiq, etc)
  • Proficiency in communicating through compelling storytelling and data driven proof points to influence product user experience strategy within the larger organization
  • Strong communication and presentation skills that allow you to tell a story to broad and varied audiences

Nice to Haves
  • A proven track record of building teams and delivering successful UX projects in a SaaS context
  • Experience with B2B products, particularly cyber security products, is a bonus

Benefits
  • Equity in a high-growth, seed-stage startup
  • Competitive health, dental and vision plans, as well as 401k with 6% employer match
  • Unlimited paid time off. To encourage time off from work and ensure overall employee health and wellness, GreyNoise requires each employee to take at least 120 hours of PTO (3 weeks) annually, including at least five consecutive business days
  • Remote-first culture. While we our headquartered in Washington DC, we have a distributed workforce -- with half of our team working remotely from across the US. We only support US residents at this time, but hope to extend support globally in the future
  • Equipment budget. Every new employee gets $4,000 to spend on equipment, so you can pick whatever works best for you
  • Paid family leave for all employees. We offer 4 months of paid leave (birth or adoption), plus 2 months of optional unpaid leave, so new parents have time to adjust to the new life (and work) schedule
  • Learning &development budget. All employees receive an annual $5,000 towards professional development related to their job function. The stipend can be applied to tuition, books, conferences, and more
  • Company offsites and quarterly fun budgets to encourage team bonding

GreyNoise Culture
The hallmark of any great company is a palpable and viscous culture. The most important pillars of our culture are:
  • Be transparent, honest, and objective. This is what it means to be “clinical”
  • Empathize with customers, partners, and each other
  • Learn from mistakes and share the knowledge
  • The way feedback is delivered to one another matters as much as the feedback itself
  • Good work-life balance is the key to sustained productivity
  • The measure of a team member’s effectiveness is how well the rest of the team operates in their unexpected absence
  • No such thing as a million dollar idea, only million dollar execution
  • Out-innovate our previous selves

Explainability
Any security product that is a “black box” that asks you to blindly trust it should raise red flags - we believe the same is true of your place of work. We obviously think GreyNoise is doing something unique, but don’t take our word for it - ask any of our over 60 enterprise customers, investors (https://tcrn.ch/3sccCq2), thousands of happy users (https://bit.ly/3sqGgbt), or dozens of journalists (https://rb.gy/r6ooti) who have cited GreyNoise over the past few years.

Why You Should Work at GreyNoise
  • You enjoy identifying and solving hard problems
  • You are comfortable taking an idea from concept to customer
  • You are open to both explaining your stance and questioning others in a clinical, open-minded, and respectful manner
  • You want to directly impact users
  • You want to grow beyond your current skill set
