We are expanding our software delivery capacity within our Operations team and we are looking for a developer in operations to help us continue our growth by helping scale and improve our deployments, our operations environment, security and developer experience.
What will you be doing?
You will be working in our Internal Service teams, whose day-to-day activities typically include:
Monitoring and maintaining existing infrastructure
Reviewing new technologies and making recommendations on how the existing estate should be evolved in future;while we’re very proud of our elegant and resilient architecture, we never stop seeking ways to improve, and fresh eyes are especially welcome
Creating and maintaining internal tools to improve the developer experience
Working with the Head of Quality to ensure effective automation of testing
Managing key services the rest of the business relies on such as email deliverability, secure storage and content delivery
Evolving of our web stack including adoption of new technologies and standards as they emerge
Automation of routine tasks e.g. maintenance, deployments, log analysis etc…
Key technical knowledge
AWS (in particular EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, IAM, Lambdas);multiple accounts across regions
Docker
Web technologies and typical deployment patterns
Scripting in Bash, Python or other high-level scripting languages
A good understanding of Linux
Other technical knowledge
We make extensive use of the following technologies, so any previous aligned experience of the below would be advantageous:
CI/CD (e.g. Buildkite)
Browser automation (e.g. Selenium, Ghost Inspector)
Source control (GitHub, GitHub Actions)
IaC (Terraform, Cloud Formation)
Javascript (Webpack)
About you
We are happy to consider different routes into this role either from development or operation experience. However to be successful we think you will need to have the following experience.
Implementing resilient, scaleable, highly available infrastructure, with consideration for security best practices.
Automation of cloud deployments and developing infrastructure as code
Understanding of common backend services such as NGINX, Redis and SSL
Ability to solve problems without clear solutions
Proactive approach to improving services and tools
Appetite for continuous learning, development and knowledge sharing.
