Lead Drupal Developer (remote first) Job Description

We are looking for a Lead Drupal Developer to work on a range of CMS and web applications projects for midsize to enterprise clients including well-known brands such as WaterAid, BAFTA, National Grid, National Youth Theatre, University of Central Lancashire, Stagecoach Bus, and Wave Utilities.

The ideal candidate is a pragmatic professional, with experience of working in a team with 6+ years of commercial experience as a Drupal specialist working across frontend, backend or full-stack disciplines and working closely with clients being responsible for the implementation phase.

You’ll be leading a dedicated build squad and working remotely - so being a self-starter and highly motivated with strong leadership qualities is essential.

The Lead Drupal Developer will be responsible for leading larger projects technically, working with both clients and squadmates to ensure sprints are delivering stories to a high standard and on time. Additional duties will include validating requirements, providing solutions, scoping/estimating work, and working with QA and UAT parties to ensure acceptance criteria is clear and releases are sound. 

Lead Drupal Developer responsibilities and duties

Leading the squad by example for coding standards/practice, you will support the Principal Leads in driving and maintaining high standards of technical development, communication, and behavior across the team.

  • Producing high-quality technical solutions that help clients achieve their goals.

  • Contribute to the scoping, planning, and documentation of projects.

  • Motivate, inspire and junior members and peers in your area of expertise.

  • Create new functionality or maintain existing websites and applications with enhancements and updates.

  • Communicate technical solutions at an appropriate level, for mixed audiences, including clients.

Lead Drupal Developer qualifications and skills

  • 7+ years on-the-job experience of commercial web development, preferably JS/PHP based.

  • 6+ years experience working as a specialist with Drupal.

  • 6+ years experience with version control systems (preferably Git) and team workflows.

  • Ability to produce and review high quality, clean code.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Comfortable being a principal for your area in the stack (you will have a counterpart Frontend/Backend specialists in your team).

Desirable Skills and experience

  • Drupal 8, Acquia or JS/PHP certification.

  • Experience with Git for version control.

  • Broader experience (or the desire) of working with frameworks such as React, Gatsby, or Larvel.

  • A Software Engineering, Computer Science Degree, or a relevant apprenticeship qualification.
