A bit about the role:
We’re on the hunt for a Junior Web Developer to join our “Theme Team”. Your mission? To create beautiful, highly-optimised, and highly functional Raisely themes for our template library. Your themes will power our customers’ next fundraising campaigns, and help raise millions of dollars.
Working closely with a designer, and the rest of our engineering team, you’ll be responsible for helping to scope new templates, bringing designs to life, and updating our templates as we add new features.
You’ll do that in Raisely’s own website editor (trust us, you’ll love it) along with your own elegant, well-organised SCSS code.
Then with your JavaScript and React skills, you’ll also be able to add functionality into your templates by expanding Raisely’s library of React components that power things like leaderboards, counters, video embeds and more.
This is an entry-level role. We expect you to come in knowing HTML and CSS really well, and we’d like some basic React (you should understand state, async/await, JSX, ES6, and basic app architecture). Beyond your code skills, you need some design sensibility, can work independently (we’re a remote team), and have impeccable attention to detail.
You’ll learn a lot here though. We’ll help you expand your front-end skills, and give you opportunities to take on new code challenges. If you’re interested in backend or moving to full-stack roles in the future, we can help with that too.
We’re 100% remote so work wherever you like. We offer genuine flexibility, an open and transparent culture, and an incredible team. While this is a full-time role, we are open to part-time – 4 days is no problem, 3 days is possible for the right person.
If you worked here over the past few months, you might have:
- Brainstormed new templates to build with our designers and product manager.
- Coded out a new virtual fundraiser template that made it possible to run a virtual marathon and raise thousands for charity.
- Updated our donation appeal template to follow our new SCSS coding standards, and add our new matched giving features.
- Added some sweet sweet CSS-powererd animations to provide an even more delightful experience for the supporters using our fundraising websites.
- Coded out a new countdown timer React component with a few style options for our customers to use.
- Had a blast at our virtual retreat and really helped your team in Trivia. (They’ll be IRL soon!)
- Made some improvements our developer docs so other web developers like you can also easily build new templates
- Customised the Raisely website (also built on Raisely) to align to a new marketing strategy
- Fixed up some bugs on your templates after they went live (we want you to own your code)
- Joined in on our regular social games sessions. It was Codenames last week.
Now about you....
You’re all across those web technologies
You are quite proficient with HTML and CSS/SCSS (you should be able to build a reasonably complex design independently, from scratch). You’ve tinkered with React or a similar framework (like Vue or Angular) and you can write your own components that do things. It’s ok if you don’t know how to build a whole Javascript application.

You’re independent, but know when to ask for help
This is a junior role, so we don’t expect you to have all the answers. There’s so much to learn! But we are a remote team so you need to be comfortable directing your own time, and identifying when you need help.
You’re scrappy and entrepreneurial
You’re excited by the challenge of working in a startup and you’re okay with us not having everything figured out. You don’t say “that’s not my job” and you stick your hand up for any opportunity. You’re excited to be part of a growing company, you’ll treat it as your own.
You know basic design principles
You’ll be working with a designer, but you don’t need designs for everything you build. You can interpret and apply a design style effectively across your work. You understand basic principles like colour contrast, spacing, hierarchy and accessibility.
You care about making a difference
Yeah, we’re all here because we want to make the world better (and by that we mean a carbon-neutral utopia with world peace and just laws, where all people are treated the same with equal opportunity to thrive). So you’ve gotta want that too!
Ok, and why work with us?
You spend nearly 2000 hours of your life at work, each year. That’s a huge commitment, so we can promise that every hour you’re spending with Raisely, you’re making the world a better place. Pretty great perk, hey?
Plus, the more you help us grow, the bigger our impact gets. And by that we’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars big.
Working at Raisely is unique. If you have a great idea, we’ll help you make it happen. You'll play a pivotal role in the success of hundreds of fundraising campaigns on our platform, and help shape our company as we grow.
If you needed more convincing, here’s the rest of it:
