Position Overview
The ideal IT Manager candidate is an IT systems expert with experience supporting an entire organization’s IT needs. This position requires extensive knowledge in IT systems, security, and procedures, with a forward-thinking mindset to continually administer and improve all IT-related functions for the company and its clients. The IT Manager will ensure proper information system operations and oversee IT staff. The candidate will proactively research, recommend, and implement upgrades to existing IT systems. The IT Manager will ensure that project/department goals are met and adhere to approved scheduled and budgets. The position covers technology leadership, technical project management, and management of IT department staff.
Responsibilities:
- Corporate Technology Leadership (40% of time) – Identification of applications, tools, and resources that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our 100% remote workforce. The ideal candidate will proactively research (whether online or via tradeshows or industry events), identify, and implement new systems and tools to ensure that the company remains on the cutting edge with respect to our corporate IT systems. This will involve not only supporting existing systems and software, but also making recommendations for future IT decisions and producing documentation to summarize Company or client IT circumstances.
- Strategic Projects (35% of time) – Implementing new Company or client Web/IT projects, such as selection of collaboration software, team backup plans, or Association Management Systems (AMS);managing key client implementations/migrations;and ensuring appropriate security and privacy for company and client systems.
- Web/IT Staff Management (15% of time) – Manage staff of four full-time Web development and IT/support personnel, as well as periodic contractors who are engaged on client projects. Mentor/train junior IT staff.
- Server Configuration &Management (10% of time) – Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Linux, Apache, Windows server, installation/configuration of software for servers, email server management, and employee system support. The IT Manager will be expected to conduct an appropriate risk evaluation to determine the organization’s needs in these areas.
Requirements &Skills:
- Technical Project Management: proven ability to manage technical teams to implement new systems—as well as step in to assist in the evaluation and implementation
- Experience with formal IT security policies and procedures. Data protection (e.g. GDPR), virus protection and removal, backup management, disaster prevention and recovery
- Ability to learn and support various content management systems
- Proven track record with medium- and long-term technical implementations
- Ability to work well in a “matrix” organization that requires answering to different managers and working with individuals across different parts of the company
- A minimum of 5+ years’ relevant experience
- Relevant technical experience and skills:
- Server Administration/Configuration: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Windows Server
- Email Server Administration/Configuration (including SPF and DKIM)
- Microsoft Office 365 Administration
- Database Administration, SQL
- Domain Name Configuration (DNS, A-records, MX-records, etc.)

As Alliances Management is a virtual company, all employees work from home. The IT Manager will do the same while employed by Alliances Management, based in Silicon Valley, California. In order to meet company requirements to manage client projects, the selected candidate will ordinarily need to work U.S. hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. U.S. Pacific Time);however, there will be times when it will be critical to work alternative hours in order to meet client expectations.
