As a front-end developer at mStoner, you’ll be responsible for delivering modern, engaging, and highly usable websites and digital experiences for our college and university clients.
The ideal candidate has three to five years of experience and wants exposure to all aspects of front-end development, seeks professional growth, enjoys helping clients, and approaches their work with care and craft.
Our front-end code forms the bridge between custom designs and large content management system implementations and therefore it is an essential competency for our business. We employ modern techniques and are moving toward headless and decoupled architectures.
We’re looking for someone who can collaborate effectively with designers, strategists, and back-end developers and is comfortable interacting with clients. We’re also looking for someone who will enjoy working in a remote, casual, and collegial team.
What You’ll Do
- Create fully responsive, meticulous HTML5/CSS3 templates using JavaScript/ES6/React that meet cross-browser requirements
- Ensure HTML deliverables meet technical quality standards, accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 Level AA) and work with CMS developers to complete a smooth transition to the implementation phase
- Work in partnership with designers, user experience experts, and quality assurance analysts to produce clean, performant, forward-thinking, responsive and scalable front-end html
- Build reusable code and maintain our front-end build processes and repositories
- Participate in the generation of UI workflows, wireframes, and/or prototypes with associated UX and information architecture considerations
- Integrate SEO best practices throughout work products
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of three to five years of experience as a front-end developer
- Prior experience in an agency or consulting firm that services clients is a plus
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with responsive web design, front-end build processes, and HTML5 / CSS3 / SASS / JavaScript / ES6 / React / Preact
- Demonstrated capability to use task runners and package managers for build automation such as NPM, Gulp, Yarn and Webpack
- Familiarity with graphic design applications such as Sketch and content management platforms including Drupal and WordPress
- Solid understanding of best practices and standards for web development, performance, security, accessibility (WCAG 2.1), and organic search engine optimization
- Proficient with code versioning tools such as Git and Bitbucket
- Familiar with quality assurance tools and code validation tools

- Must be willing to travel on occasion to client locations, mStoner Chicago, or meetups with technical team members in St. Louis (all travel has been indefinitely suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic)
