The Engineering Manager is entrusted with the care of a team of talented web engineers/consultants (8-12 people). We’re looking for someone who is comfortable mentoring and coaching people to help them grow as both developers and consultants. The ideal candidate has experience fostering a healthy, productive environment by building strong relationships;recruiting, onboarding and holding their team members accountable. We’re looking for someone who’s still able to ensure that our team’s work consistently meets our coding and quality standards, and who can provide hands-on support in coding or testing work from time to time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Live our Core Values and encourage others to do the same

  • Provide consistent, valuable feedback to direct reports, maintaining high performance and morale;ensure direct reports keep current with technological developments in the industry

  • Assist team members with evaluating project requirements, write understandable code and documentation, provide feedback on technical direction/architecture, etc.

  • Participate in departmental recruiting, hiring, and onboarding activities

  • Work with other developers and project team leaders to ensure projects are appropriately staffed to leverage our team's bandwidth and skillset

  • Collaborate with department VP and other leadership team members to find ways of maintaining and improving departmental performance and delivery

  • Lead or participate in internal initiatives, sales activities, etc.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a technology team leader and people manager

  • Patient and empathetic in dealing with people;possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to build positive working relationships with direct reports, as well as others throughout the organization;comfortable working with cross-disciplinary teams and with organizations of various sizes

  • Displays good judgment and efficient decision making;knows when to call out and/or escalate concerns and risks and accompanies those with potential solutions

  • Understands the modern web development landscape;able to actively participate in coding and/or testing activities as needed, as well as able to assist direct reports with problem-solving, debugging, and/or code reviews

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a front-end developer with an understanding of front-end technologies and architecture including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and one or more JavaScript libraries/frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue

  • Understanding of Web Accessibility Standards, including WCAG 2.x, and implementation considerations

This is a remote position, but please note that candidates are expected to operate within Eastern Standard Time Zone business hours.
