The Data and Analytics Platform at Yelp empowers us to make quick and informed decisions about our systems, applications, product and business. We build Yelp’s centralized experimentation platform, responsibly collect and store large amounts of data that describes our users’ interactions with our product, scale complex yet elegant analytics pipelines to meet our ever growing demand for insights on the product and business, and provide exceptional developer experience for engineers who instrument analytics and metrics across the company. As a manager on this team, you’ll enjoy leading and inspiring a team of skilled engineers to develop the next generation of our data platform to support Yelp’s ever-growing scale.

Where You Come In:

  • Managing a team of infrastructure, backend and full stack
  • Helping the team stay happy and productive by removing obstacles and optimizing team processes
  • Coaching and mentoring engineers of all experience levels, from recent graduates to senior engineers
  • Working with the team and the Product Manager to develop and own a product vision that you’ll communicate to the company
  • Building and maintaining relationships with Product Managers, Data Scientists and Executives
  • Participating in the hiring process
  • Defining SLAs and monitor availability &performance of the systems that form the foundation of the data platform
  • Scaling infrastructure to meet demand while keeping an eye on cost efficiency
  • Willing to roll up your sleeves and debug/tune/code/fix alongside your team and driving technical incident response
  • Excellent communication skills

What it Takes to Succeed:

  • Previous experience as a technical lead or manager, with the empathy and communication skills to match
  • You take a “people first” approach and a deep care for healthy team culture
  • Previous experience with building and scaling A/B testing tools and platforms, end-to-end analytics pipelines that span the gamut of data capture, transport, storage and query
  • Experience building engineering solutions to implement concepts such as data meshes, data lakes and data governance
  • Deep understanding of analytics systems like Google Analytics / Tableau
  • Experience using cloud computing services (AWS, Microsoft Azure, etc.)
  • You can command your favorite modern programming language: Python, Ruby, Java, C++, etc.
