We Work Remotely
About the job
We're looking for a versatile and multi-talented designer to join our team at Cliniko. We're a company of 56 people, including, until now, a one-person design team. We've reached a point where the workload exceeds what one designer can manage alone, so we're looking for a second designer to join the team. Our existing designer will narrow their focus mostly to the design of the Cliniko product, and our new designer (you) will be responsible for our branding, website, and marketing.

What is Cliniko?
Cliniko is practice management software that makes life easy for allied health professionals by handling appointment scheduling, storing treatment notes, running video consultations, and much more. The software is used globally by 100,000+ people every day.

Our team
Behind Cliniko is a team of 56 people, spread around the world. We work completely remotely, although our base is in Melbourne, Australia. We care more about finding the best person for the job than looking for someone that lives nearby.

We don't have managers, we almost never have meetings, and there are no time sheets to complete. We're responsible, autonomous, creative, and proactive in doing our best for our customers. We're focused on making great software and we take pride in doing good work. It’s also important to us that we have a positive impact on the world.

If you want to know more about how we work, our founder, Joel, gave a talk about it.

About you
It goes without saying that you are a talented and creative visual designer. Your work has personality, be that via illustrations, striking graphics, motion design, or something else special that you bring to the table, that will help us to stand out in a competitive industry.

You'll be familiar with a few design tools including Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.

Experience matters, but we won't pluck an arbitrary number of years out of the ether that you absolutely must meet, and we don't have roles such as junior, senior, or lead here at Cliniko. What is important is that you've done neat work that has been put out there in the world, that you know what it's like to collaborate with others and to work alone, know when to fight your corner and when to concede with humility, and how to learn from your mistakes.

Since we are a remote team with no formal hierarchy or top-down direction, how you manage your time is entirely up to you. You need to be comfortable working autonomously, and know how to motivate yourself to stay creative and productive.

There is no geographical requirement for this role. Applications are welcome from anywhere in the world.

No matter what your background is, or how you identify, if you feel you meet the requirements, we encourage you to apply. We know that having a diverse team is necessary to have different perspectives, and it's how we’ll continue to find new ways to make Cliniko better. We are committed to the continual diversification of the team and working to constantly improve our inclusivity which is crucial to how we work.

What you'll work on
The work is quite varied, but here are some examples of what you can expect:
  • You'll be the main custodian of the Cliniko brand identity. In the short-term you'll need to be able to create graphic work that fits in with our existing brand. In the longer-term you'll redesign our brand identity.
  • You'll work on the graphic, UI and UX design of the marketing website for Cliniko (cliniko.com), help centre, and other web resources in the Cliniko ecosystem.
  • You'll work with our marketing and content teams to create on-brand graphics and animations for advertising campaigns, social media, blog posts, and marketing emails.
  • You'll be responsible for the design of other brand touch-points, including t-shirts, stickers, exhibition stands, and event design.

How we work
Here are some things we do a little differently to enable people to do their best work and live a happy life:
  • 30-hour work week, full-time pay.
  • Flexible hours, choose when you work.
  • Work from anywhere.
  • Unlimited annual leave (minimum 4 weeks per year).
  • Supplied computer equipment.
  • Ergonomic furniture.
  • Fresh organic fruit delivered weekly to your home.
  • Overseas trips for team meet-ups.
  • No managers.
  • No scheduled meetings.

How to apply
The red "Apply for this position" button will take you to the application form with a few questions. The “short friendly summary” field needs to give us enough information to be interested in taking you to the next stage. We typically get a lot of applications (hundreds at a minimum), so do put some effort into this section please. Notably, there's no resume or cover letter submission, so this is your spot to give us some insight into who you are. And please be yourself, there’s no need for formality.

Please make sure to provide us with a link to your portfolio, or links to specific projects that you think will give us an idea of your talent. We will be reviewing quite a few applications, so we ask that you place the examples you're most proud of at the top.

Applications close end of day 18th August, 2024 AEST.

What you can expect after applying
Once you’ve applied, sit back and relax while we get to work on our side! We’ll be reviewing all the applications as they come in and we’ll get back to you within 2 weeks after applications close at the latest. Everyone will hear back from us, successful or not.

If we select you for the next stage, it will be a short 5 minute chat with our founder, Joel. Following the chat, if you’re still a contender, there’ll be a small design task to complete. These tasks are paid.

Lastly, you’d meet with some people from our team and then we’ll make the final decision. This is the exciting part for us and hopefully also for the chosen person: we’ll hire them to join our team! This will happen fast, and the start date will be chosen by the applicant.

We know it’s quite a process to go through, so we want to make sure you know what you’re in for up front. We’ll be transparent with everyone along the way.

One final note, unfortunately due to the quantity of applications we receive, we are not able to provide feedback for those not successful in the first round. In the later stages, we’ll do our best to provide what we can, if requested.

Good luck!
