We are looking to add a Business Development &Marketing Manager to our team who will work closely with our company’s Founder to play a central role in managing new business opportunities and marketing our brand. This is a mid-level position and an opportunity to learn from our Founder’s 22 years of experience in shaping Constructive’s brand and building our business—and to run with these things and grow them in the years ahead. About the Role
As Constructive’s Business Development and Marketing Manager, you’ll work at the intersection of sales and marketing with equal emphasis on both. In sales, you’ll play an integral role in responding to and qualifying inbound opportunities and then manage the process of responding to right-fit ones from proposal to pitch. In marketing you’ll play a pivotal role in developing Constructive’s content marketing and social media to help shape our brand and increase its visibility.

We’re looking for someone who is great at building relationships, is an excellent writer, and who has great marketing instincts and a competitive spirit. The common thread is being an effective and engaging communicator who knows nonprofits, quickly sees the mutual benefits in opportunities, and inspires confidence that we will maximize the value in every partnership.

Your Core Responsibilities
New Business Development (40%): Business development work tends to have peaks and valleys based on the RFP-issuing cycles of the nonprofits we work with. Currently, the work is all responsive to inbound inquiries. At peaks, we are typically managing +/- 10 opportunities.

  • Become fluent in speaking to agency history, expertise, areas of focus, and past projects
  • Manage ongoing inbound new business inquiries, responding to and documenting them
  • Review RFPs;identify opportunities and challenges to determine fit
  • Schedule and conduct qualifying calls, both independently and with Constructive’s Founder
  • Manage new business pipeline from intake to pitch, updating along the way
  • Manage the estimating process, working with staff to identify questions and scope work
  • Perform market research to position Company proposals and pitch
  • Create, proofread, and deliver proposals using Agency templates
  • Prepare team to succeed in new business pitches, organizing internal meetings and creating pitch briefs/presentation decks
  • Create and maintain an opportunity/proposal calendar that keeps team connected to their contributions and upcoming milestones
  • Work with Operations Manager to document sales pipeline and revenue forecasts
  • Transfer new client relationships to Project Managers
  • Help improve new business process and tools, working closely with Founder to systematize and streamline business development function
  • Conduct post-mortem calls with lost opportunities to sharpen new business process
  • Identify and build ideal client lists for proactive sales;work with Founder to develop process for proactive sales (currently all sales are inbound)

Marketing (60%): Marketing is an ongoing activity that drives brand visibility and sales, and requires proactive work throughout the year. We’re looking for someone to help shape, drive, and measure Constructive’s marketing efforts.

  • Work with Founder and Digital Marketing Associate to plan and execute content marketing and social marketing plans
  • Ensure company voice and tone in all marketing is appropriate for our brand, our audiences, and the channels in which we communicate
  • Work with staff to develop content marketing themes, create articles, webinars, and other content marketing that elevates their voice and expertise, and that positions our company
  • Work with Digital Marketing Associate to publish all content (on our website, on Medium) and to schedule email newsletters
  • Produce company newsletters—writing their content and working with design team to source images
  • Work with design team to produce all marketing graphics.
  • Create and manage marketing calendar for newsletters, articles and social posts across platforms
  • Manage and maintain company profiles on agency directory websites (such as Clutch.co) and social media pages.
  • Develop social media 
  • Cultivate marketing partnerships with external industry websites and events, driving content publishing opportunities, speaking, and sponsorships.
  • Liaise with PR consultant to increase agency and staff visibility

Skills &Experience You’ll Need
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a design or communications agency 
  • Strong understanding of the nonprofit sector
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong understanding of content marketing and social media
  • Strong understanding of the Google Business Suite
  • Strong understanding of email marketing, with MailChimp a plus
  • Experience using InDesign a strong plus
  • Experience analyzing Google Analytics a big plus
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization principles a plus

Note: currently Constructive’s business development is purely inbound and because of the strength of our brand and work, we receive more unsolicited inquiries than we respond to. While there is a company-wide bonus for any new business brought in through an employee’s network, this role is not commission-based.
