ASSOCIATE ENGINEER

Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a great engineer who wants to help our team:

  • modernize the underlying infrastructure of Wikipedia and make it scalable and sustainable
  • ensure our non-profit fundraiser becomes more accessible worldwide
  • protect Wikipedia and our other projects
  • ensure that the development team has a sound testing strategy and is following effective testing methodologies

We’d like you to do these things:

  • Identify test automation candidates and work with other developers to develop automated tests.
  • Test new features and improvements to verify that the software we create is reliable, usable and works as intended.
  • Track, escalate and provide reporting and communication for security bugs
  • Review and deploy features developed by the Foundation and community members
  • Participate in the collaborative review of code changes made by fellow staff and community members
  • Working with the guidance of Technical Leads and Senior Engineers to triage, diagnose, and fix reported bugs, write tests and refactor code

Skills and Experience:

  • Academic or professional programming experience (undergraduate degree, bootcamp, professional work experience, self-taught)
  • Some experience and or knowledge of implementing unit and/or integration tests, utilizing Selenium and/or other test automation tooling.
  • Some experience and/or knowledge of Object Oriented Programming principles and best practices
  • Open to working with a mix of PHP and Nodejs as well as Go, Python 
  • Familiar with storage technologies like SQL and NoSQL
  • Comfortable using *nix and command line applications
