About Us:

Jetpack Workflow helps thousands of accounting, bookkeeping, and service firms complete their work on time. We work with small to medium sized businesses around the globe to track due dates, collaborate with each other, and manage their clients.

We believe in leaving everything better than we found it. We're always working to improve speed of delivery and application performance, while maintaining cost-effective and secure infrastructure. We are a small team of 6 engineers looking to add our first dedicated Operations Engineer. Reporting to our VP of Engineering, you will work hand in hand with your peers in and outside of engineering, helping us execute our vision of helping every firm get their recurring client work done on time. Our current technology stack includes GitHub, CircleCI, Ruby on Rails, React, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Heroku.

We encourage you to apply if this posting resonates with you, even if you don't feel like you meet every requirement. Send us your resume, LinkedIn, Public Repos, Work Samples, Portfolio, or whatever you feel best represents yourself by filling out this application.

Jetpack Workflow is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Day to Day

As the founding operations engineer, you will have the influence and freedom to define the operations roadmaps in the engineering organization, improve our current application and infrastructure performance, and establish best practices in the engineering organization. Though you will be the only Operations Engineer, you will not be a team of one. As a core member of the existing team, you will:

  • Mentor your peers to level up their operational skills and best practices
  • Work with product and engineering management to develop appropriate service level objectives
  • Own and improve the existing infrastructure, ensuring we can meet capacity in a cost-effective manner
  • Monitor and improve system observability, performance, security, and availability
  • Debug issues across the whole stack and optimize code and systems to address performance issues
  • Automate manual processes whenever possible and document when its not
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation on our infrastructure and operational practices
  • Maintain and document sustainable postmortem/incident response practices

We think that this is a great opportunity for an operationally minded software engineer who wants to make a formal shift into DevOps/SRE or an experienced DevOps/SRE engineer who wants to build a formal program from scratch.

We believe you'd be a phenomenal fit if any of these describe you:

  • You are experienced in analyzing, logging, and monitoring output to identify application and infrastructure issues.
  • You can write high quality code in some common programming languages (e.g. Ruby, Python, Javascript, Go).
  • You have maintained continuous integration and deployment infrastructure.
  • You have deployed applications to cloud service providers.
  • You are comfortable making changes directly in our codebase.
  • You love collaborating with people in every functional area of the company.
  • You take pride in your work and are constantly looking for ways to improve.
  • Bonus points if you have previous experience working in a startup.

You can work almost anywhere in the world, but we'd prefer candidates who have at least some overlap with the USEastern Time zone. We are unable to sponsor any work visas.
