We are seeking a UI/UX –HCD (Human-Centered Design) Designer who will be a key contributor to a Hybrid Agile development team, focusing on the modernization of IT Service Management (ITSM) for a Federal agency through the ServiceNow Enterprise Service Management (ESM) platform. This role is dedicated to ensuring that new systems, applications, and workflows are designed with the end-user at the forefront, promoting intuitive use, accessibility, and positive user experience. By applying human-centered design principles, the HCD Designer will collaborate with stakeholders and users to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that meet the specific needs of the agency. Embracing a DevSecOps methodology, this position requires a deep understanding of user interface design, usability testing, and compliance with human factors standards, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and user satisfaction of the ServiceNow modules including ITSM, SPM, ITOM, Customer Service Management, among others. This position must have experience in assessing new products and their compliance to human factors standards and their effects on users. Must be able to take user requirements and define and design products and solutions that meet end user needs. Must have experience in documenting strategies and plans. Conduct human factors analysis and document findings. The work can involve both hardware and software. Must understand all standards. This position is contingent upon contract award.
What is the position?
The UI/UX –HCD Designer will play a crucial role in ensuring that the ServiceNow ESM platform and related IT solutions are developed with a deep understanding of user needs and best practices in human-centered design. Through collaborative design processes, user research, and continuous iteration, the successful candidate will contribute significantly to creating a more intuitive, accessible, and efficient IT Service Management environment for the Federal agency.
What will I get to do?
- Design intuitive and user-friendly interfaces for the ServiceNow platform and its modules, focusing on improving usability and accessibility.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs based on user requirements and feedback, ensuring alignment with the overall mission of the ITSM modernization project.
- Conduct usability tests to validate design choices, gather user feedback, and iteratively refine designs to enhance user experience.
- Assess new products and solutions for compliance with human factors and accessibility standards, ensuring they meet the needs and expectations of a diverse user base.
- Collaborate with project teams, stakeholders, and end-users to define and understand requirements, translating them into design solutions that address user needs effectively.
- Document design strategies, plans, and human factors analysis findings, maintaining clear and comprehensive records of design decisions and user research.
- Ensure all designs and implementations adhere to federal standards and guidelines for accessibility, security, and usability.
- Participate in Agile Scrum meetings, contributing insights from a human-centered design perspective to guide development and implementation efforts.
What qualifications do I need?
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to pass a background check and receive a Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field.
- 4 years minimum relevant experience in human-centered design, user experience design, or a similar role, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating user-friendly digital interfaces.
- 8 years additional experience in related field may be substituted for education.
- Must have experience in assessing new products and their compliance to standards and their effects on users.
- Ability to take user requirements and define and design products and solutions that meet end user needs.
- Have experience in documenting strategies, plans, and conduct human centered design analysis and document findings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
What additional characteristics will help me thrive?
- 2-3 years additional relevant experience
- ITIL v3 and/or ITIL v4 Certification(s) is highly desirable.
- Various ServiceNow Certification(s) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision, Figma) and understanding of the technical constraints and possibilities within web and mobile application development.
- Experience in conducting usability testing, user research, and human factors analysis, with the ability to synthesize findings into actionable design improvements.
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and experience designing for diverse user groups, including those with disabilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of Agile and DevSecOps methodologies, and how they influence the design and development process.
- Familiarity with the ServiceNow platform is a plus, including its capabilities, limitations, and the context in which it is used within federal agencies.

Compensation
$74,436.56 –$119,096.32
The pay range for this job is determined by various factors, including but not necessarily limited to location, responsibilities of the job, and alignment with market data. When determining a salary for this role, the following factors may be taken into consideration –contract-specific affordability, education, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. The estimate displayed represents the salary range for this position and is just one component of Cognosantes total compensation package for employees.
