GRAPHIC DESIGNER AND CONTENT SPECIALIST

Reports To: Senior Director of Communications and Research
Position Location:Remote
Position Type: Full-time, exempt, union
Compensation: $60,000-$70,000

Position Description:

New American Leaders (NAL) and New American Leaders Action Fund (NALAF) are working in tandem to build an inclusive democracy by preparing first and second-generation immigrants and refugees to run for office, win their campaigns, and lead in elected office. We are the only organizations preparing New Americans to enter the political process and govern with accountability and authenticity. As a result, more New Americans will run for office, engage their communities, turn out new voters, and ultimately serve as values-aligned leaders in office who can advance just and equitable policies.

The Graphic Designer and Content Specialist will be responsible for envisioning and designing all materials for New American Leaders and New American Leaders Action Fund including social media graphics, presentation designs, and swag. This position will also assist the other members of the communications team in organizing and creating video and written content for the organizations websites, social media platforms, training programs, events, and other activities as needed.

As a part of a fast-moving, highly creative team, applicants should be comfortable working in an environment that quickly responds to current events and with a team that values open, collaborative communication. This role has significant freedom to test out ideas and is encouraged to try the latest trend, explore new partnership and collaboration opportunities, and test out new ideas to build the organizations brand visibility and identity.

Responsibilities:

  • Envision and design all social media graphics both independently and in coordination with other members of the organization
  • Create and develop all design elements for reports, events, training materials, merchandise, and other activities as requested
  • Assist the communications team in the development of digital campaigns
  • Track and report on the effectiveness of design initiatives as part of the teams larger data reporting efforts
  • Create GIFs, videos, and other visual materials for use in email and social media campaigns
  • Engage with alumni, elected officials, and partner organizations to collect stories, manage projects, and gather stories to be used in communications materials
  • In coordination with the full communications team, develop strategy to increase brand visibility and engagement across all platforms
  • Maintain clear, organized system to store and share all design materials
  • Develop and share timely ideas to respond to current events and/or opportunities for design assets, campaigns, actions, and other ideas. Creativity is welcome!
  • Support the organizations on broader communications and training tasks as needed. This can include, but is not limited to, Giving Tuesday campaigns, end of year giving campaigns, training coverage on social media, endorsement promotion, highlighting elected officials work, etc.
  • In coordination with the Digital Content Specialist, develop engaging, digestible, action oriented digital campaigns for both NAL (C3) and NALAF (C4) platforms to mobilize advocates and promote action around organizational priorities and issues
  • With Senior Director of Communications, make and implement recommendations for website updates for both NAL and NALAF
  • Help maintain EveryAction database for adding, categorizing, and tracking NAL supporters

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

    • At least 1-3 years of communications experience with a political campaign, advocacy organization, union, grassroots organizing group, or non-profit
    • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite programs (Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, etc)
    • Excellent time management skills
    • A creative approach to design and content generation we are always open to exploring new ideas!
    • Interest in immigration, immigrant rights, social justice, and creating an inclusive democracy
    • Ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time in a fast paced environment without sacrificing attention to detail
    • Work with a no task too big, no task too small attitude
    • High fluency with online communication and collaboration systems like Google Suite and Slack and project management software like Asana
    • Forward-looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
    • Ability to set and complete ambitious goals
    • Willingness to work and learn with a remote team
    • A good sense of humor and a collaborative, team approach
    • Interest and experience in photography and videography a plus

      Given the fluid nature of communications in the political world, this role has some evening and weekend responsibilities. Although NAL makes every effort to respect standard office hours, some off-hours work is required and noted for comp time.
