We understand our members in highly nuanced ways, and enable the organization to engage people in targeted outreach to provide value specific to them. This team is also at the heart of creating new experiences for our members –from building a benefit navigation service, which provides personalized guidance on how to lower one’s bills, to creating ways for our members to get faster and more relevant responses from our team via multiple channels of engagement and human to human interaction.

The Engineering department sits within the Digital Innovation team, which comprises of product management, technical program management, data science, data engineering, data analysts, and research/insights. We are a growing team of passionate doers and change makers!

Why We Need A Full Stack Tech Lead

We have launched our v1 benefits access navigation service, which enables any American to find more ways to save money. We are in a very exciting phase of product development –with the first version live, and usage data coming in on what works and what isn’t working as well, you have the opportunity to 10x our impact (ideally, over and over again!) here through fast iteration and new feature development.

The v1 was built on our pre-existing web-tech stack (Drupal), and our needs have pushed us to identify and prioritize migrating to a new and more scalable infrastructure. This new tech stack is likely to leverage the following systems and tools: Next.JS, React, Aurora RDS, and Netlify (or Vercel). You’ll likely have an opinion on the tech, and are excited to build! You will work with our Sr. Staff Engineer and a team of contractors to set us up to scale through this new modern stack, while also leading the product development for the benefits access service.

Responsibilities

  • Be the lead engineer for your product manager counterpart, working to scope and define projects that put more $$ in people’s pockets.
    • You’ll collaborate with the rest of the product and tech team to build an amazing and impactful product
    • You’ll own end to end feature development, from building the backend to facilitate the feature, to making the user interface
    • You’ll work with product and other engineers to define the scope, make technical tradeoffs, and set timelines
    • Be responsible for the technical direction necessary to achieve our product vision
      • You’ll understand the big picture as well as the near term goals and be able to chart a path from where we are today to where we need to go
      • You’ll own the technical architecture for the benefit navigation service
      • Provide technical guidance and direction to our contract engineering team
        • You’ll set the code quality and architectural standards and ensure that the team understand and adhere to themRequirements

You’re an engineer who has been part of early, dynamic teams, and you love to think about the organizational outcomes of your work. You care about driving IMPACT –and to do so quickly. You’re experienced and you’re excited to help the everyday American “put more $$ in their pockets”.

          Qualifications

          • 7+ years experience writing, deploying, and maintaining code in a team environment
            • Demonstrated experience in building user-facing features for web applications –both front end and back end development. You have an eye for detail and user experience, and the ability to create the right backend to make the whole experience sing!
            • Relational database SQL
            • React front-end
            • Javascript
            • At least 3 years serving as a tech lead
              • Ability to work with product leaders to find solutions, and make good tradeoff decisions
              • Ability to communicate technical limitations and finding workarounds
              • Ability to translate product/project specifications into technical specifications
              • Ability to set technical direction, technical design and code standards
              • Ability to estimate the work involved and help leadership make high level roadmap tradeoffs
              • Ability to break down tasks, delegate responsibilities, and manage project tasks in an agile environment.
              • Nice to haves
                • Ability to hold the team (including contractors) accountable to achieving their tasks in the agreed upon time frame
                • Ability to iteratively improve the ability of the team to hit timelines
                • Next.JS experience
                • Drupal experience
                • Netlify and Contentful experienceBenefits
