At Bold Penguin, we use a collection of tried-and-true principles to make everyday decisions about what we build and how we build it. Our Story As the world has become more connected, the commercial insurance world has not––creating a landscape that’s increasingly fragmented and frustrating for everyone involved. Bold Penguin is on a mission to change that. Since 2016, we’ve brought on the best of the best in insurance, engineering, and business to help us upgrade the commercial insurance industry. As we look to scale our product across the country, we want the best puzzle-seekers and problem-solvers we can find––and that’s why we’re looking at you (yes, you!) to join us. We started on a patio! We started out in Columbus, Ohio (on a patio, actually) and have quickly expanded. Although our engineering team HQ is in a downtown skyrise, a growing number of teammates are remote throughout the United States. Our Edge Every startup under the sun believes they have a flexible, collaborative culture. But what does that really look like at Bold Penguin? We believe in challenges. Insurance is incredibly complex, but that’s what makes our jobs fun (and rewarding!). We look for big thinkers who don’t shy away from hairy, ambiguous challenges. We believe in ownership. From day one, we give our team members incredible autonomy to define their priorities and use their skill-sets to benefits the company as a whole. If you want to be micromanaged or told what to do, this likely isn’t the place for you. We believe in work that’s fun. We take the penguin theme very seriously (our floor in the Chase Tower is called the Glacier;our desk pods are called Icebergs;our conference rooms are penguin-themed) and we make an effort to spend time together through weekly catered lunches, philanthropy off-sites, family events, and more. We believe in you. We’re not your standard 9-5, but we don’t ascribe to the startup “hustle” culture, either. Want to work remote? You got it. Prefer burning the midnight oil? Our name fits our mission and our culture in two key ways: Penguins are super fast under the surface, just like us. Our software dramatically reduces the time that agents and small business owners spend searching for the right quote. Penguins make bold moves so everyone wins. Penguins are fiercely team-oriented, so one penguin will test the waters to make sure they are safe for the group. We also believe in an “everyone wins” world––our model gives equal advantage to customer, agent, and insurance company. We believe in creating a world where everyone wins, faster.
