About us:

At Tendermint Inc., we build, maintain, and promote critical state-of-the-art infrastructure for decentralized applications, such as Tendermint Core & Cosmos SDK. We are the creator of Cosmos Network, a decentralized network of independent, scalable, and interoperable blockchains. We’re passionate, self-driven, industry leaders whose vision is to empower every human to contribute to solving the world’s most urgent and complex problems. We believe that the technology we’re building will have a major impact on how humans connect and coordinate on a global scale. Join our growing team and plug into the most powerful blockchain ecosystem.

How we work:

We have team members working from across North America, Europe, and Asia. We leverage agile methodologies to move quickly and stay focused. Communication is important to us and we rely heavily on Slack, Zoom, and GitHub to help us stay in sync. All the technology we build is open source. This is a full-time remote position and you’re free to work from anywhere. Be advised that most team meetings occur between 8am and 12pm Pacific Time (UTC-8/-7).  If you’re applying from a location where these hours are outside your usual working hours, you’ll be expected to adapt to our meeting times.

About the position:

Tendermint is seeking a talented, multi-disciplined UI Designer/Developer with experience designing and developing high-quality user interfaces for web and mobile applications. Your work will be instrumental in creating the gateway to adoption of Cosmos technology. Primarily your focus will be on building decentralized tools for communication and collaboration – think Slack and Discord, but open-source and powered by blockchains. You will be working closely with our Developer Experience team, and most of your time will be dedicated to bringing a new messaging app to life. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to other projects in the Cosmos ecosystem and bring your UI and front-end expertise to various aspects of the developer ‘onboarding’ experience. We’re looking for a motivated and versatile self-starter who values a user-centered design approach, has a knack for writing solid front-end code, designing beautiful and functional UIs and an eye for detail – but with the wisdom to sweat the important details first!

What you will be doing:

  • Gather and evaluate product requirements in collaboration with project leads, developers, and key stakeholders.
  • Design intuitive and engaging interfaces from the ground up.
  • Implement front-end code for your UIs using modern web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JS.
  • Illustrate visual ideas using sketches, wireframes, mockups and prototypes.
  • Prepare and present working prototypes regularly to internal teams and key stakeholders for feedback and user testing.
  • Support design decisions with best practices and data from usability studies and site metrics.
  • Adhere to and contribute to brand guidelines on typography, iconography, colors, imagery, and graphic style.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating 5+ years of experience with a breadth of UI design and development capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of any modern front-end frameworks (we currently use Vue).
  • High level of proficiency in designing UI components with a modular architecture.
  • Extensive knowledge of UI design best practices and current web production techniques and limitations.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment, with the ability to work independently and self-directed as necessary.
  • Clear and concise written and oral English communication skills.

Nice to have:

  • Proficiency with modern design tools like Figma (our tool of choice) and ability to learn and adapt to new ones.
  • Strong understanding of UX best practices and how to translate them into usable interfaces.
  • Good understanding of component-based design systems and style guides.
  • Ability to design and implement meaningful animated micro-interactions.
  • Interest in emerging interactive technology in web, mobile, and other devices.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to be part of building the future of the Internet
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Excellent benefits like educational budget, fitness and wellbeing spend
  • At least 4 weeks of paid vacation
  • Competitive salary package, including equity

Applying:

To apply, please go through our online application process and include a cover letter with a link to your portfolio.
