SUSE’s Engineering &Innovation (E&I) oversees the technology innovation, and product and solution development and delivery of SUSE’s global portfolio, built within various open source projects and communities.

What you’ll do

The ideal candidate has actively developed software for Linux projects, has integrated that software into Linux distributions and is familiar with common open source development methodologies (ie. pull requests, peer reviews, and developing in public repositories with other community members).

In your role as Software Engineer, you will work within a team of specialists to deliver solutions that span across products in the SUSE portfolio. You will interface with Project Managers, Product Managers, Quality Assurance, technology architects, and other experts across department boundaries. Your task will be to become a subject matter expert in your area of expertise to deliver enterprise-ready, Linux-based solutions. You will develop code and configuration, ensure quality and testing is in place, and act on errors from the CI. You will work interactively with upstream communities to enhance, extend, and improve open source software projects. You’ll be point of contact for other engineers seeking expertise in resolving customer reported issues, and respond to bug reports for code and config you’re responsible for.

What you’ll bring

  • At least 4 years’experience in software engineering
  • Expertise and hands-on experience with Linux distributions and their components
  • Knowledge or experience with package and configuration management
  • Proficiency and hands-on experience with Shell, Python, Go, or other programming/scripting languages
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication in English
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, and to see the big picture
  • Passion for contributing to a safe, diverse, and inclusive culture
  • Openness to learn something new, continuously improve, and a strong desire to build great things

Bonus Points for

  • Experience with open source development
  • Experience working within a distributed team
  • Familiarity with container technology and cloud native applications
