In service of that mission, in 2021 and beyond, MoveOn will drive impactful, movement-connected, multichannel, nimble campaigns aimed at impact.
This individual will join MoveOn’s Political &Federal Affairs. This operation drives MoveOn members’ work to elect progressives up and down the ticket and build power through elections. This team advocates on behalf of our members to Congress, the Administration, &our allies in DC;we are a strategic partner to our campaigning;and we are a key outside partner pushing inside-outside advocacy efforts for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
Responsibilities
- Support MoveOn leadership in decision making by making positional recommendations
- Contribute to overall legislative strategy with a consistent priority to racial justice and equity
- Represent MoveOn at progressive partner legislative working groups on assigned issues and report back on developments and progress
- Track and research a diverse portfolio of progressive legislation complementary to MoveOn’s priority issues using MoveOn’s congressional database using Quorum
- Legislative analysis for MoveOn members and allies through priority campaign context, including support for bill endorsements
- Work with Congressional offices, administration, allies and the MoveOn team to execute DC actions, press events, rallies and other mobilization tactics
- Develop and enhance systems to report progress to goals internally, with coalition partners, and with Congressional staff on inside-outside projects
- Partner internally to advance our legislative goals, share information/analysis and recommend campaign, communications and member engagement opportunities
- Manage organizational/partner contacts and correspondence using Quorum
- Coordinate with MoveOn’s political operation on relevant plans, candidate will adapt with department to support electoral investments as applicable
- Other duties as assigned
Required skills and experience
- Seven or more years of experience, policy or politics in a government affairs capacity
- Have worked on a state or national political campaign (candidate or issue)
- Experience in developing and implementing lobbying tactics and the inner workings of Congress and the Administration
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self-starter with the ability to do background analysis and research on emerging priority issues
- Familiarity with online to offline campaign and organizing tactics, knowledge in navigating inside/outside strategies
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize deadlines and adaptable to shifting directions
- Cultural competence with a personal commitment to equity and growth
- History of advancing progressive issues and working within a team dynamic to accomplish ambitious goals
- Preferred candidates will have work experience on a progressive issue portfolio and familiarity with national advocacy organizations working in coalitions
Reports to: Congressional &Administration Liaison, Federal Affairs
Location: Position is located in Washington, DC. May require occasional travel.
Salary and Benefits: At MoveOn, we commit to equity in our compensation philosophy and practices. We are committed to equal pay for equal work. To counter systemic compensation issues in this country and pay inequality, we have a nonnegotiable compensation practice. We utilize benchmarking and peer organization data to ensure we provide competitive nonprofit compensation and benefits. The annual salary for this position is $89,465.99. In addition to the base salary, we offer a monthly home office subsidy. We also offer an internet and phone subsidy of $2,100 annually and a health and wellness subsidy of $900 annually. All of these cash benefits are added to your bimonthly paycheck. We offer strong medical, dental, and vision benefits, which are free to employees and children of employees (spouses or domestic partners can be added at a subsidized rate). We offer employer-paid premiums for life insurance;four weeks accrued paid vacation time per year, prorated for the period that you work;18 weeks of paid parental leave (birth, adoption, foster care placement of a child), 10 days accrued paid sick time prorated for the period that you work;paid family medical leave;and 8 staff holidays and 6 floating holidays. We contribute 5% to your 401(k) after six months of employment. We also offer $1K in professional development budget each year for each staff member.
