As a Principal Cloud Engineer, you are responsible for collaborating with other leaders to shape the technical vision for Indeed in the cloud.  You are also responsible for leading and working through others to implement a secure, reliable and performant cloud infrastructure.  You command broad knowledge on cloud infrastructure topics, but relish the opportunity to dig in deep on new technologies. You are able to manage and communicate a technology’s complete life cycle.  You can embed with teams and make direct individual contributions, and then come back to home base with the knowledge acquired.  You have leveraged cloud technologies at a very large scale.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with other leaders to shape, improve and evolve the cloud vision and strategy for the future of Indeed’s cloud infrastructure,  and help manage the adoption process
  • Regularly and continually evaluate Indeed’s cloud infrastructure architecture and ensure it’s ready for future demands 
  • Lead the design, development and evolution of Indeed’s cloud infrastructure 
  • Consult with stakeholders to specify requirements and solutions which address business challenges and opportunities
  • Partner with customer organizations to understand their infrastructure challenges
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in cloud infrastructure, performing design reviews and consulting with internal teams to ensure design best practices
  • Lead and define technical standards, governance and compliance for Indeed’s cloud infrastructure
  • Contribute to Indeed's cloud privacy policies and implementation
  • Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery processes  
  • Ensure cloud security measures are incorporated into infrastructure implementation
  • Offer guidance in infrastructure resilience techniques across multiple zones and regions
  • Identify the top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the company
  • Partner with Indeed’s cloud provider to evaluate roadmaps and plan for integrating proper technologies into Indeed infrastructure
  • Create strategies for new cloud technologies, and coordinate proofs of concept and beta evaluations with cloud providers and Indeed teams

Requirements:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent and extensive knowledge of system administration and software engineering 
  • Expert-level knowledge in the cloud infrastructure, creating documentation and evangelizing with other teams
  • Deep technical understanding of multiple operating systems
  • An advanced background with common automation tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Chef and Ansible
  • Comfortable with ambiguity.  Can chart a new course of action
  • Proven drive to take responsibility, accountability, and ownership
  • Proven ability and desire to mentor, teach people what you know and guide team members' learning, including introducing new ideas and technologies
  • Proven ability to conceive and lead the delivery of platforms, frameworks, and patterns that help solve problems across multiple products
  • Extensive experience evaluating, onboarding and managing new technologies/services/features
  • Proven ability to anticipate business needs and lead a team towards identifying and solving cross-domain problems.
  • Deep experience in building highly available large fault-tolerant enterprise distributed systems  
  • Designing, developing, and deploying infrastructure and business software at scale  
  • Excellent understanding and experience with cloud governance at scale
  • Excellent understanding of cloud foundational services - databases (relational and NoSQL)
  • Excellent understanding of cloud foundational services -  networks (routing, firewalls, load balancers, VPCs, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway etc.) 
  • Excellent understanding of cloud foundational services -  Storage (object, block, file, etc.) 
  • Excellent understanding and experience monitoring tools.
  • Excellent understanding and experience with IT compliance and risk management (security, privacy, J SOX, HIPAA, etc.)
