Functional Responsibilities

The Global Programme on Nature for Development manages a total of 7 websites:

www.equatorinitiative.orgwww.learingfornature.orgwww.nydfglobalplatform.orgwww.financenature.orgwww.natureforlife.worldhttp://www.unbiodiversitylab.org/, and www.undpopenplanet.org (currently under development). The programme’s web presence attracts an average of more than 50,000 visitors monthly, with high levels of engagement and user interaction.

Producing relevant and compelling web content on a regular basis and keeping the different web environments up to date have been the key to meet the needs of a demanding audience. This requires periodic update of content as it is being released.

Functional Responsibilities

UNOPS is seeking the assistance of a web content analyst to support with the management of the existing websites, as well as foreseen web projects. The incumbent will be working under the close guidance of the project team’s website and database specialist. The nature of the work will be on-demand, as requested by the project team under the website and database specialist’s leadership.

The incumbent will be responsible for populating and keeping up to date content across all the websites. This includes html static pages, java script interactive content, flash integrations, media libraries, etc. 

The project team will supply data, front-end design, complex coding, UX design, copy-edited text, logos/branding specifications and other necessary assets, while the incumbent will support the project team to maintain and populate the different web spaces. The incumbent will also ideally be able to identify evident mistakes in inputs before publication and alert team members;a basic understanding of international development and nature-based solutions is therefore desirable. Note: This is an ICT focused position.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Update and/or develop page content, including text blocks, iframes, image/video blocks, short-codes
  • Update HTML, CSS and JavaScript regularly
  • Support with the creation and population of SCORM files
  • Update LMS content
  • Update multilingual site versions
  • Database updates, upgrades and optimization
  • User management and support
  • Monitor/cleanup databases against automatically generated bidirectional spam content
  • Support with website troubleshooting and debugging
  • Conduct content audits to eliminate redundant and/or duplicate information
  • Identify evident mistakes/inaccuracies prior to publication/dissemination
  • Collaborate with all staff to ensure that the websites align with brand strategy and meet the organization’s standards
 Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education
  • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, international relations, development economics or closely related field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the fields mentioned above is permissible with 2 additional years of experience.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in website development, design, and programming is required.
  • Experience in analyzing, developing, testing, launching, and maintaining websites is required.
  • Experience in visual communications and graphic design skills is required.
  • Solid understanding of the web development process, including the concepts of user experience, user interface design principles and conceptual design is required;
  • Programming skills and knowledge of HTML5/CSS3/XML/JavaScript/AJAX/PHP/SQL/CMS: WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or similar, is required;
  • Experience in international development would be highly desirable, including practical experience outside ICT applications.

Languages

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required.
  • Additional languages are an advantage.
