The Opportunity
You will have a team that reports to you, and full ownership over the strategy and results of the podcasts that we create for our clients.
This not only requires an ability to deliver creative and battle-tested podcast strategy ideas but the ability to convey them in a way that gets our clients excited to implement them (because of the results it will have for them).
Essentially, you’ll act as their advisor for everything podcast strategy, content, and marketing-related throughout the launching of their show, and into ongoing production. What You’ll Be Doing
Your commute is 45 seconds. You brew great coffee or tea (or Kombucha if you’re into that type of thing), then hop on Slack and share what you’ll be working on with the team.
From there, you might find yourself on a strategy call with a CMO from the latest and greatest SaaS company who wants to use podcasting to build brand authority and thought leadership.
Then it’s on to exploring ways to gain listeners for a show whose content kills but isn’t gaining traction.
Maybe you have a coaching call with a new host, a 1:1 with a member of our leadership team, or participate in a Chat N’ Chill (a monthly team meeting where we leave work behind for an hour so, you guessed it, we can chat and we can chill).
Next up you’re brainstorming titles for a new show launching next month and if you have it in you, which we know you do, you’ll end the day by making the kind of content edits that ensure a show shines from afar.
There will be many memes, gifs, and team collaborations in the mix too, of course.
It’s not a day at Lemonpie if you haven’t laughed and learned. In fact, let's learn together now. Attention to detail test: use the word "walrus" in your application to be considered.
And we don’t just say that - we make it our mission to ensure each and every day results in a team that’s happier and more fulfilled than the day before and growing together, even from hundreds of miles apart. The Perfect Fit
The mission of the Head of Podcast Strategy is to advise and lead our Podcast Production clients by providing world-class strategy and service while ensuring their goals are met (and exceeded).
- Creative Strategy Process - Leading the new client creative strategy process to determine what podcast concepts could/should be executed. This may include things like:
- Audience research - What the client’s ideal audience currently consumes and wants to learn. This is learned over phone calls, survey’s, and market research.
- Competitive research - What other podcasts exist in the client’s category. This is learned through market research.
- Concept creations - Coming up with multiple approaches the client could take with their podcast based on their goals, and the opportunity learned through the audience and competitive research phases. Concepts include things like naming, hosts, formats, descriptions, types of guests, unique value proposition (to the listener), marketing/sales/client nurturing use-cases, etc.
- Pre-Launch Process - Once the podcast strategy has been determined, you will lead the pre-launch process to get the show live, which may include things like:
- Custom launch timelines - Creating a week-by-week timeline of what needs to happen to get the client’s show launched based on the client’s needs and our own internal processes.
- Custom launch documentation - Creating an outline of everything we’ll deliver and everything they’ll need throughout the launch period and beyond.
- Show Blueprint - Creating a comprehensive guide to their show that includes everything from content and runtime, to responsible parties, and a custom marketing strategy.
- Ongoing Production Process - Leading the overall ongoing production process to ensure our clients are getting the most out of their show post-launch (from a content, marketing, and sales perspective), and it is leading to the results they want (awareness, trust, and sales to name a few.). Some areas of responsibility may include:
- Interview simulations/host coaching (as-needed) - Tailored calls with new hosts to help them prepare for interviews in real-time.
- Guest prep sites - Create custom, instructional landing pages we point guests to once they’ve scheduled. This lets them know what to expect while also representing our client well with a branded and professional site.
- Guest management strategy - Create a custom guest outreach strategy for clients based on their needs and show structure.
- Guest research/prospecting - Building a list of hand-picked guests you feel would be a great fit for the shows content and their audience.
- Prep Guides Strategy - Lead and improve our process for creating in-depth host prep material for each guest interview.
- Strategy Reports - Perform show audits to monitor growth patterns and highlight areas of improvement (new content suggestions, listenership growth strategies, specific marketing and sales use-case recommendations, SEO improvements, etc.).
- Pre-interview guest calls (as needed) - Conduct calls with guests to ensure they’re well prepared for their interview and answer any last-minute questions they may have.
- Content edits (as needed) - Removing any content “bulk” to ensure the end result is a well-crafted storyline their audience will love.
- Podcast Marketing Process - You will provide recommendations for a podcast marketing strategy that would be most ideal for each client, and oversee our team’s successful delivery of it. Podcast marketing assets we deliver may include turning each of their episodes into:
- Long-form articles
- Newsletters
- Original social media content (written and graphics)
- Audiograms
- Videos

Here’s how you’ll know if we’re a match made in podcast history.
You:
- Have an entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for the intersection of content, business, sales, and marketing.
- Have a deep understanding and strong beliefs (that are loosely held) around all the ways businesses can ROI their podcast via sales, marketing, client nurturing, and brand building.
- Can analyze and recommend the best podcast opportunities/strategies for brands based on their product, market, and goals.
- Have a fairly broad understanding of how marketing and sales functions inside of companies think and operate, such that your recommendations for each client’s podcast strategy aligns with their internal marketing/sales goals and capabilities.
- Have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in building relationships with leadership teams and internal stakeholders.
- Have expertise in providing editorial judgment and identifying A+ content.
- Are a voracious podcast listener with deep perspective and opinion on where the podcast industry is going.
- Stand on a strategy and content bed you made yourself. You have at least one year of experience writing, producing, and/or consulting for a podcast(s) or other strategy-heavy media content.
- Think outside of the box. Or more accurately, are unaware a box ever existed and like to create your own. Then you tear it down and build a tower instead.
- Have an almost freakish ability to communicate big ideas. Not only by speech but the written word. For real. We mean it. If communication of any kind is something you struggle with, we totally get it (we love our introverted team members!), but you and this role won’t be friends.
- Crave improvement. You’re never good with good enough. You know even the best show can be better, and you want to be the person that gets it there.
- Are a team player. If you’re a “that’s not my job” or “I did all of this” person we’re not for you.
- Speak up. You say what you’re thinking and are objective with your feedback.
- Take 100% accountability. For wins and losses.
- Work independently. We pride ourselves on pouring into each and every one of our team members, but hand-holders we are not (well...we do hold our husbands/wives/little people’s hands from time to time. We’re not monsters.).
- Are a good human. We pride ourselves on being a team comprised of genuinely good human beings (kind, empathetic, transparent, etc.) and will keep it that way.
- Live in the United States.
We:
- Exist to help businesses grow (and their people shine) through podcasting.
- Have been fully remote from the start. Work from your home office, co-working space, or a cornfield in Iowa. If you have internet access we’ll be in business.
- Are a people-first company. Our team is always our #1 priority and not just because it’s good for business (happy people do better work) but because it’s the right thing to do.
- Promote and encourage work-life balance. Your little person has t-ball games every Thursday evening so you need to tap out early to prep for? Have fun and tell them we say good luck (then share pics in Slack of their cuteness, of course). Your new pup has obedience training every Wednesday afternoon? Go for it, and maybe stop off for a nice walk after.
- Do not micromanage. Not even a little. Your work will speak for itself. We’ll never track your time, double-check that you did xyz, or ask why you came in at 8:45 instead of 8:00. You have our full trust from the very beginning.
We work really hard to make working at Lemonpie an amazing experience. We have a team full of truly exceptional people - the kind you’ll be excited to work with.
Here’s how we operate:
Here’s how we operate:
- Live And Work Where You Want - We’re a distributed team, so you can live and work wherever you want (from your house, favorite coffee shop, co-working space, etc.). For our ideal candidate, proximity won’t influence their productivity because they are internally motivated. Our only requirement is that you have a reliable internet connection and can focus on work during work time.
- Unlimited Paid Vacation - We want you to take vacation. In fact, we have a minimum vacation policy of three weeks per year (not including holidays). It’s important to get out and do something. We’ll look forward to seeing pictures when you get back.
- Flexible Hours - As long as you’re available during core business hours and keeping full-time hours (7am-3pm, 8am-4pm, 10am-6pm, etc.), we’ll work with you to create a schedule that’s optimal for you.
- Monthly Remote Stipend - For some, working remotely means lots of coffee shops, a co-working space, or let’s face it - needing more loungewear. We provide a $100 monthly stipend for whatever you need.
- Personal &Professional Growth - We’re serious about helping you improve your craft. Think conferences, books, dedicated time away from work to learn something new…it’s really up to you, but we love to see our people growing.
If this sounds like everything you’ve been waiting for, consider this our formal invitation to apply here.
Note: If we like your application we will ask you to complete a test project free of charge to give us a better idea of how you operate hands-on. The work completed in said test project isn’t used for anything outside of gaining perspective on your work.
Thanks so much for your time - we know you could be on IG right now, but chose to be here with us instead and we’ll never forget that.
