MobilizeGreen seeks two 52-week conservation-minded Geology Resource Assistant. The Geology Resource Assistant will work on the determination of the mineral ownership beneath various forests in Region 9. The RA will participate in weekly department meetings, and other employee activities that occur in the Regional Office. The RA will read deeds and legal documents and other databases to determine the mineral history of the properties. After determining the information, a database will be created along with an ArcGIS layer of mineral ownership. The RA may need to travel to various forests to view their legacy deed information. This position is an office position with some field work.

The Resource Assistant's Program is designed for emerging professionals to launch their natural and cultural resources careers. The RA will receive hands-on learning experience, mentorship, and coaching to complete mission-critical work while developing leadership, critical thinking, and strategic communication skills.

Location: The position is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Milwaukee is located along the western edge of Lake Michigan. Due to the location, the temperatures are somewhat tempered. Milwaukee experiences all four seasons and has temperature ranges from below zero to 100 degrees. Milwaukee is home to the largest Music Festival in the US and is the home of many ethnic festivals. Cultural opportunities include comedy clubs, open mic opportunities, art institutes, the symphony as well as many live playhouses. Sport viewing opportunities include professional and minor league baseball, basketball, minor league hockey and indoor soccer. Outdoor sport leagues include volleyball, softball/baseball, gun sports, sailing and many others. Milwaukee's slogan is a great place near a great lake.

Term: 52 weeks starting June 6, 2022. Full-Time (40 hours per week).

Host Unit: Eastern Regional Office

Duty Station: 626 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Read deeds for mineral information.
  • Enter data into ArcGIS and compile information within the Geo database.
  • Produce maps of mineral ownership for each forest. It may be necessary to travel to the forests to check the information in their files as well as in the field. 
  • Review state and BLM information to verify/validate information.
  • Write letters in Word to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) outlining the mineral ownership.
  • Compile deed information into an excel database.
Work Environment: The environment is an office environment utilizing physical paper files and some electronic media to create a history of the mineral estate. Field work may occur but is not
expected to exceed one week each quarter.

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology or similar field of study
  • Working knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Strong ArcGIS skills.
  • Ability to read text and transfer the information in a truncated form to a database. This
    requires reading and translating the information into a series of categories
  • Attention to detail. This is a very detail oriented position.
  • Must Maintain a Valid Driver's License
