You will be joining a team that is doing truly innovative work in the K12 learning space. The company has created tools available nowhere else in the industry to empower students to develop their critical thinking and writing skills through literacy. The status quo for the ed-tech industry is developing literacy skills through multiple-choice and other less sophisticated exercises, which inherently limits students to lower-order thinking. It’s done this way because the alternative is technically much more challenging.
At Whooo’s Reading, we have never been afraid of these types of technical challenges. For 4 years we have been honing our product that uses cutting-edge natural language processing to help students become thoughtful and articulate young people. Our products have been used in one-third of US schools and now are soon to be licensed to some of the biggest companies in the space who recognize the value of what we have created.
We are deeply committed to creating not just best-in-class educational products, but also taking bold risks in the hopes we can continue to level up our industry. We may be small, but that has not stopped us from pushing the boundaries in education more than companies categorically larger.
This role is good for you if you are a fast learner and curious. As mentioned, we are experimenting with new machine learning methods, as well as other pedagogical practices, and being able and willing to keep on learning and growing with us is a must.
We are in the space of helping K12 students grow, so if you care about education, this is a good fit for you.
We are a distributed remote team, so having experience managing responsibilities independently is also very important.
To succeed in this role you will need practical experience delivering full stack applications using Ruby on Rails and React JS. We are looking for someone who has at least 1-2 years experience maintaining a live, customer-facing Ruby on Rails platform.
Knowledge of Python and basic Machine Learning practices is a plus, as the role can evolve to doing some Machine Learning work too.
You will be responsible for the maintenance and development of our ensemble of micro-services and user interfaces. Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:
* Write well-designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices
* Create user interfaces by using standard HTML/CSS/Javascript (React) practices
* Integrate data from various back-end services and databases
* Create and maintain software documentation
* Cooperate with support and QA teams in order to anticipate and fix code-related issues.
* Cooperate with designers to match visual design intent
* Cooperate with marketing teams in order to inform future development decisions
