We’re looking to grow our engineering team with a full-stack engineer to join us on our mission to provide essential tools to help small businesses get off the ground and grow. We’re looking for a customer-focused product engineer to work on creating delightful product features for our customers. Who You'll Work With
We have an open position in our Labs team where you will focus on building new products to help small businesses or ambitious individuals grow their organic reach.  The goal of this team is to move fast and experiment with different ideas to find new products with a good market fit. 
 
You will report to an engineering manager and work closely with a team of 3 other engineers supported by a product manager, a designer, customer advocates, and marketing managers.
 
What You’ll Be Doing
  • You’ll be working within our product engineering team to build new products and new product features.
  • Our front-end applications are built using React with GraphQL as the interface to our backend services, written in Node &PHP.
  • You will contribute to our engineering standards to continuously improve the consistency and quality of our codebases and processes.
  • You will also collaborate with other product engineering teams to facilitate integration of new products and product features into our existing tools. 
  • We're agile, use continuous integration and continuous delivery, deploying to production every single day.
  • You will work on bug fixes and improving application performance. 
  • As you gain context, you’ll provide technical guidance to teammates and insight into technical decisions to product managers.
 
The engineering team at Buffer is highly collaborative. We try to be“No Ego Doers” and call out our own assumptions. You will collaborate with the rest of the engineering team through code reviews as you work to build new features for our customers.

Currently at Buffer
  • We work in JavaScript (React, TypeScript), Node &PHP, GraphQL, MongoDB.
  • Our infrastructure is built around GitHub, AWS, Kubernetes and Helm.
  • We use Slack and Jira for communication and project management.

Helpful Skills and Experience

  • You have experience as a full-stack developer working on applications with meaningful production traffic.
  • You are product minded and love collaborating closely with both the Design and Product team to build new applications with our product teams.
  • You are passionate about writing simple, maintainable code and you take a balanced approach to product engineering, embracing pragmatism over perfection in your work.
  • You are keen to write and maintain tests where needed and appreciate the importance of working effectively with legacy codebases.
  • You have experience working with React, GraphQL, or Node as well as working with multiple APIs and data sources.
  • Experience with any JavaScript frameworks would be helpful but isn’t required. We encourage folks to work across the stack.
  • We value the depth and quality of your experience, over counting years. That said, successful applicants typically have 3 years + of development experience.

Competitive salary: Our salary formula adjusts to your cost of living and experience. For this role, the range is: [$128,265 - $151,000] USD.
