We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Frontend Performance Engineer to join the team at Modus. Want to build awesome solutions? Are you interested in working from home with the best talent on the planet? Then keep reading.
About You
You have expert level knowledge of React and may have previously built applications which focused on the visualization and analysis of complex data. You have a natural drive to learn new things and frequently find yourself exploring new languages and frameworks.
You’re passionate about all aspects of client side performance including the analysis, measurement and optimization of performance in modern single page applications. You long ago memorized the keyboard shortcut for your browser’s developer tools and are familiar with how to best utilize performance profiles and heap snapshots to analyze the performance of applications.
In the past you may have worked with a team to improve the observability of a single page application by instrumenting key client side interactions or associate additional metadata with route changes. You approach your work with a user-centric mindset and understand that user experience is a key aspect of all software.
This is a senior-level position. That means you enjoy working with people and mentoring others. Your technical skills are top-notch but you know that the social ones are just as important. You're an excellent communicator who has a knack for knowing when everyone isn't on the same page, and getting them there. You can deal with stress and uncertainty, and lead the team away from them. You don't need to be told what to do, because when you see something that needs doing, you do it.
You are comfortable working in an agile environment with a globally-distributed team while collaborating with subject matter experts from our client’s organization on a daily basis. You’ve got the discipline to work autonomously, and the written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with your team. Having your working hours overlap with your team (US central time) is critical when working in a blended remote team. In addition, reliable high-speed internet is a must.
In this role your primary responsibilities will include:
- Instrumenting key user interactions and the collection of associated metadata via New Relic
- Building custom dashboard dashboards within New Relic using React
- Building a library of custom visualizations and components for use within dashboards
- Analyzing the client side performance of a complex SaaS product and finding effective ways to measure that performance in the real world
Beneficial supporting skills and experience include:
- Experience building custom reporting applications in New Relic
- Experience with observability/tracing tooling such as: New Relic, Splunk, CloudWatch, Logic Monitor, DataDog, etc
- Existing experience with any of the following: Dart, Go or GohperJS
- Knowledge basic UX best practices and a user-centric mindset
