Our Build and Release team delivers software into the hands of our customers in a way that improves developer velocity and product quality. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join and support the team.
With dozens of automated CI jobs executing on every merge request, running on autoscaling AWS instances for Linux and Windows, a fleet of collocated macOS machines, simulated environments for Android and iOS, and virtualized environments for our browser extension this isn’t some cookie cutter setup we’re running here. We build the tools that enable build and release across a variety of platforms: clients apps for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS;browser extensions for Chrome/Chromium, Safari, and Edge;backend services running on AWS;and a web platform.
As our codebase and engineering organization scale, we are looking for someone to lead a team of strong individual contributors to deliver our software fast with quality. Your contributions will be felt throughout the company, helping us move faster, together. Lastly, you will be on the team responsible for building, signing, and deploying the release versions of 1Password that we send out to our millions of customers.
For this role, you can be located within the US or Canada, and will be expected to be fully remote, ideally in the EST time zone.
What we’re looking for:
- Previous experience of managing teams of high-performing developers.
- The ability to create and maintain a positive, healthy team environment in which everyone is supported, encouraged, and meaningfully challenged to do great work.
- Capable of driving the delivery of projects, and creating roadmaps for future work.
- Someone ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work themselves on technical challenges.
- Significant experience with CI systems, including designing, operating, and maintaining complex build and release pipelines.
- Experience working in Python, Powershell, Bash, or comparable scripting languages.
- Experience with iOS and Android packaging and App Store/Play Store deployment.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with GitLab and GitLab Runners.
- Experience working in Rust and/or TypeScript.
- Experience working with quality assurance teams to ensure they have access to the builds they need to complete their testing.
What you can expect:
- Support and set strategic direction for the release of software at 1Password.
- Drive alignment and be responsible for the results of the team in support of broader company objectives.
- Collaborate with senior individual contributors to create an engaging technical vision for the teams.
- Work with cross-functional partners to define the best solutions for our customers, both internal and external.
- Work to scope and plan key deliverables for projects and initiatives with the team.
- Drive execution with an emphasis on iterations and deliverables, quality, velocity, and communication.
- Provide technical leadership to developers both in your team and across the engineering organization.
- Grow individual contributors to reach their potential.
- Recruit and retain top tier talent in a fast growing environment.
- Continue scaling a highly specialized engineering team by working with a team of Engineering Managers to continuously refine hiring, onboarding, and development processes.
Even if you don’t tick all those boxes, we want to hear from you. We understand that everyone’s experiences are unique.
The most important thing you can bring to this job is the drive to dive in, get the work done, and fix root causes instead of treating symptoms. If you bring a desire to do the right thing for our customers, a sense of ownership over the product you work on, and a focus on shipping quality code, we want to hear from you.
