Build Service Engineer

In this role you will work on the Open Build Service (OBS), a Linux release engineering platform to collaborate on building and distributing software products. SUSE uses the OBS to ship software for a wide range of operating systems and hardware architectures.

Our SUSE Build Operations Team is responsible for the build and provisioning chain of all software solutions shipped by SUSE.
Build integrity and the availability of trusted software are key contributors to the success of SUSE.
All software is packaged and maintained in the Build Service, a distributed application enabling fast and continuous building.
As a Build Service Engineer your task is to shape the future of the Build Service and ensure the quality of its content.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate 3rd party services and tools (e.g. code security) into the Build Service

  • Ensure the quality of the software that is submitted into the Build Service

  • Review and improve existing tools and processes

  • Improve and develop new features for the Build Service backend


Candidate Profile

  • Self-motivated and self-organized

  • Very good understanding of the Linux operating system

  • Good programming skills (e.g. C / Perl / Bash / Python)

  • Familiarity with software development processes

  • Familiarity with software packaging

  • Ideally experience with release engineering

  • Working in open-source communities is a plus

  • Container knowledge is a bonus

  • Good communication skills and a strong proficiency in English (spoken and written)
