Application Deadline: 1/8/2021 by 5pm MST

Turing School of Software &Design is seeking an Alumni Engagement Coordinator (AEC) to join our Employment team. The success of our alumni is the realization of our organizational mission. The AEC will work to cultivate the alumni network and organize opportunities for alumni to actively support that mission.

About Turing
Turing offers intensive instructional programs for adults working to become professional software developers. Beneath the surface, Turing is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to train a diverse, inclusive student body to succeed in high-fulfillment technical careers.

Throughout our organizational journey, alumni have played a huge role in solving our biggest challenges. Alumni refer over 60% of our applicants, ensuring we have a robust application pipeline. Alumni volunteer as mentors to assist students along their academic journey. Alumni are regularly participating in special events as judges, coaches, and content experts. By doing excellent work in their jobs, alumni open doors for others to find great jobs. The success of one alum paves the way for others to follow in their footsteps.

As our student body continues to grow, we need the support of alumni now more than ever. The Alumni Engagement Coordinator will play a critical role in strengthening the alumni network and helping our community reach even higher heights.

Expected Responsibilities
As a new role on the team, we know that the responsibilities and opportunities will change significantly as the work begins and we better understand the problem. At the beginning, our expectations are for the AEC to:
  • Design and implement an engagement strategy for newly-graduated alumni that welcomes them into the alumni community
  • Work with our Alumni Committee to understand the needs, desires, strengths, and weaknesses of our existing alumni network
  • Collaborate with the Alumni Committee and the Turing team to connect alumni with professional development opportunities
  • Begin an extensive outreach effort to build relationships with existing alumni, gather their perspectives, and find opportunities for them to engage with students and other alums
  • Develop a measurable set of metrics to help us understand how alumni are engaging and supporting the mission over time
  • Research and plan localized engagement opportunities for alumni spread across the country
  • Be the single point of contact for staff who are looking for alumni to participate in events, provide feedback on academic plans, or help with recruitment efforts
  • Be the single point of contact for alumni who want to raise ideas, participate in activities, or organize opportunities for fellow alumni

Qualifications &Expectations
High quality applicants will have some or all of the following:
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Experience in community organizing or network activation
  • An infectious enthusiasm that can help alumni get excited about opportunities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with small group facilitation
  • Ability to hypothesize, plan, execute, and iterate in extremely rapid cycles based on emerging needs, feedback, and observable data
  • Ability to build relationships quickly and create safe, inclusive environments for people with a broad spectrum of backgrounds, experiences, and identities
  • Flexible personal scheduling to allow for shifted-schedule work hours when needed

Metrics of Success
Performance in this role will be measured by:
  • Alumni participation rate in mission-furthering activities
  • Tracking and growth of “hand-off” engagement opportunities coming in from the alumni network, like job leads delivered to the jobs team and new mentors connected to the mentoring program
  • Engagement data observed and gathered by the Alumni Committee

Employee Expectations
The employee can expect to:
  • Earn a Coordinator Level salary of $74,377
  • Receive a 1% raise after each 7-week academic “inning”
  • Work remotely from anywhere with reliable internet and +/- 2 time zones from Colorado, with core hours of 9AM-2PM MST
  • Work full-time with a typical 40-hours-per-week schedule. However, this role will likely necessitate frequent “flex hours” to meet with alumni outside of their own working hours.
  • Receive fully paid premium health insurance for the employee, one spouse/domestic partner, and any dependents
  • Long-term disability insurance
  • Group Life Insurance (with benefit equal to yearly salary)
  • Reduced workload during our “intermission” weeks between each inning (there are 9 intermission weeks per year) and school breaks
  • 401(k) savings program with 2% employer match
  • Parental leave policy ensuring at least 8 weeks of fully paid leave
  • Flexible minimum leave policy of at least 15 days per year
  • Exceptional medical care policy, covering significant medical costs not covered by our normal health insurance

Diverse Recruitment Pool Policy
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of Turing’s organizational values. To ensure a diverse pool of candidates is considered, initial reviews and phone screens will not begin until optional applicant self-reporting demonstrates that the pool is, at a minimum, made up of 30% people of color and 30% non-male applicants.  In the event that a sufficiently diverse pool has not applied after recruiting efforts of 90 days, the application period will close and current applicants will be allowed to move forward in the process.

This information will be collected via a separate anonymous electronic form sent after the application is received. This anonymous electronic form will be collected by an employee that is not involved in the interview process for new candidates. Once the data from the anonymous form indicates that the above percentages of pool diversity are reached, the hiring team will be notified that the screening and interview process may begin for the new position.

To Apply
Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume or questions to Courtney Haynes, Senior Director of Operations, at courtney@turing.io.
