Nathan James is looking for an Accounting Specialist to join our team to help ensure the integrity of our books by owning the cash, credit card, purchasing, and payment processes.

People-first company, design-first home.
We are a design-first, home furnishing company focusing on the habits of urban dwellers and first time home buyers. We pride ourselves on the best in class customer happiness, providing the highest possible quality products that are affordable for the majority and assembly that isn’t dreadful.

As a people-first company, we understood from day one the importance of being fully distributed. We encourage everyone to work in whichever manner that helps them perform their best.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
You’ll be responsible for overseeing everything related to cash transactions, credit cards, inventory purchases, and other accounts payables from an accounting perspective. You’ll help us ensure that cash and credit card transactions are recorded and reconciled in a timely and consistent manner, as well as validate that we have all the right backup to support the transactions. You’ll process, verify, and reconcile our inventory purchases to make sure we get what we pay for.  Additionally, you will make sure we pay our suppliers and vendors on time.

We are all about cross-functional training so you will learn about our accounts receivable, deductions, sales tax, and intercompany processes in order to lean-in and support the team when needed.

During training, you’ll be expected to be proactive in your learning and pick things up quickly. Once fully up-to-speed (2-3 months), you will be independently owning your functions and take responsibility for making sure things are running smoothly.

ABOUT YOU:
We’re looking for someone with full-cycle accounts payable experience, with a minimum of 5 years in the manufacturing, distribution, of consumer finished goods industry.

You have great attention to detail and like finding ways to improve processes to make things run smoothly and efficiently.  You also know when to ask for help and are open to trying new ways of working to solve problems. Excel is your friend and you know how to utilize formulas like vlookup and pivot tables to improve efficiency and summarize data in a clear and concise way.

Being the expert in your area makes you feel accomplished and you take pride in doing a good job.  You are also willing to take on new challenges to expand your knowledge and improve your skillset.

Interacting with various parts of the business will be part of your day to day, in addition to periodically communicating with vendors: you have to have strong communication skills and love building relationships.

For this role, we do require that your normal workday has at least 4 hours overlap with the eastern timezone workday (currently UTC-5) without impinging on your personal/family life

This is a remote role since we are a remote company! You’re free to work where you work best, anywhere in the world: home office, coworking space, coffee shops, or in Montreal. While we currently have an office in Montreal, you should be comfortable working remotely—most of the company does! That hinges on effective writing, self-discipline, and comfort with open communication.
